When Wilbur leaves the hospital after having tried once more to kill himself, the staff ask his brother Harbour to let Wilbur move in with him. The brothers thus share their childhood flat, next door to the bookshop their father left them. Uninterested in the family business, Wilbur works in a nursery. Harbour takes care of the shop and meets Alice, a mother who sells him the books she finds when working as a cleaner at the hospital. When she is sacked for always being late at work, she goes to see Harbour to explain why she won't be coming to the bookshop anymore, since she has no books to sell. Following his brother's advice on "grabbing" women, Harbour asks Alice to marry him. The wedding meal takes place in an Asian restaurant and allows Wilbur to get acquainted with Sophie, Alice's ex-colleague from the hospital. The two start flirting, but Wilbur pushes Sophie away after she licks his ear. He goes back home and slits his wrists in the bathtub. Harbour finds his brother just in time and Alice saves Wilbur by using towels to stop the bleeding. While discussing Wilbur with Alice, Harbour ends up telling her his brother feels responsible for their mother's death. , 1h52

Alistair and Miles, both with aristocratic connections, start their first year at Oxford University. Though they are very different — Miles is down to earth and happy to have a girlfriend from a lower background, Lauren, whilst Alistair is a snob with aspirations to follow his uncle, a Tory MP — the common bond is that they both become members of the Riot Club, a long established elite drinking club priding itself on hedonism and the belief that money can buy anything. , 1h33

Psychotherapist Claire Summers (Anne Hathaway) is called upon by her supervisor (Andre Braugher) to treat a group of five survivors of a recent plane crash; passengers Dean (Ryan Robbins), Norman (Don Thompson), Shannon (Clea DuVall), Eric (Patrick Wilson) and flight attendant Janice (Chelah Horsdal). Claire talks to Eric in the hospital, who seems unusually upbeat. When Claire holds a counselling session for the survivors (except Eric, who decided not to come), she receives different recounts, with some not even remembering certain parts of the crash. Afterwards, Claire meets up with Mr. Arkin (David Morse), who is seemingly an official from the airline to confirm which parts of their recounts are true. He however dismisses her, claiming that the crash was the pilot's fault. She then proceeds to Eric's home for a private counselling, with Eric becoming attracted to her. Claire becomes suspicious of him when he reveals personal information about her, including how he knows what type of coffee she likes and asking whether she has a sister., 2h39
