Oru Oorla oru Rajakumari (A Queen in a Kingdom) is a Tamil film written and directed by K. Bhagyaraj. The film, produced by C. H. Venu, had musical score by Ilaiyaraaja and was released on 15 January 1995.

Synopsis

Venkata Subramaniam (K. Bhagyaraj) aka Venkat is an educated unemployed bachelor who is living with his brothers' family. Being jobless his brothers and their wives insult him often and make him to do ruthless works for their sake. Venkat does everything for them but they don't stop to humiliating him. The only person who showers love for him is his grandmother who dreams that her grandson has a bright future and he would marry a Princess.

Anand Verma, a widower and father of a child, admits a woman in the hospital who had lost her memory. Since he admitted her in the hospital, the doctor asks him to take care of her until she recovers from amnesia. The doctor names her Asha which is the name of Anand's wife and makes her believe that she is married to Anand and has a child. Due to the circumstances, Anand has to accept the situation and takes her to his house. Asha insists that she does not remember any incident about her life with Anand. To make her believe doctor lies to her that she has a birth mark in the part of the body only known to her husband. He also places photograph of hers with the wedding photo of Anand. Asha yet resists that she cannot remind anything but believes that Anand is her husband and she is a mother of his child.

The story starts off with Vasanthi (Ambika) and Dr. Anand's (Rajesh) marriage. On their wedding night Vasanthi attempts suicide and is saved by Dr. Anand. He then inquires about her past. Vasanthi tells him of her failed love affair with Palakkad Madhavan (Bhagyaraj). Palakkad Madhavan is a poor, naive, honest, aspiring music director with a huge family back home to support. His assistant Gopi is a kid wise beyond his age who has the knack of surviving in a big town. They move into an upper portion of the house where Vasanthi lives with her grandfather, mother, sister and a disabled brother. Initially Vasanthi sympathizes with Madhavan's unfortunate financial situation but eventually falls for his naive innocence and integrity in spite of his difficulties. Madhavan initially refuses Vasanthi's advances fearing her family and his financial inability to support her but eventually accepts her love.

Shanmugamani (K. Bhagyaraj) arrives as a Tamil language teacher to a school. He is an alumnus of the same school, from where he studied very well despite his poor background and got STATE FIRST in his+2 exams. He is fooled by the students of twelfth standard headed by a brilliant but mischievous student Priya. Shanmugamani is irritated by her indicipline and finds fault for whatever she does. But this does not stop Priya to crack pranks on him. There is also a student in the same class, who studied in school with shanmugamani, and has not yet passes +2. Priya's classmates create a fake love letter written by Priya and keeps it in Shanmugamani's desk. In a controversy between him and saritha, bhagyaraj slaps her saying he gives 30 days to return to him, though she refuses it, later she realises her faults, falls again in love with her. In climax bhagyaraj marries another girl . Changed up saritha comes there, begs him not to Marry another girl than her,he refuses her requests and marries. Saritha dares to die with her son. Then the clerk arrives there telling whole thing was a drama and bhagyaraj is still clean. Movie ends up with saritha walking back to his house.

The movies portrays social conditions like dowry, one sided fidelity of woman, honor, illiteracy and other aspects of social life. Mangalam (Sulakshana) is the only daughter of the village elder (Senthamarai) who lives happily and hopes to get married soon. Senthamarai invites Bhagyaraj's family (Father and Step-mother) to come see Mangalam. Mangalam's family loves Bhagyaraj, and Bhagyaraj feels the same about Mangalam. Bhagyaraj's family promise to send their reply later. In the meantime, Bhagyaraj courts Mangalam (though initially shy), and meets Nambiar (Mangalam's uncle). All is well and a date is set to discuss the marriage proposal. During the discussion, Bhagyaraj's step-mother asks for more dowry than Senthamarai can provide and the marriage proposal stops. Senthamarai also opposes the marriage after the talks fall through. Mangalam and bhagraraj attempt to elope fails, and Mangalam is caught by her father who attempts suicide. Bhagyaraj comes to mangalams village to woe her family to give her hand in marriage. Does bhagyaraj succeed in this forms rest of the story.
