Panhandle is a 1948 film directed by Lesley Selander. This Western marked the writing and producing debuts of Blake Edwards and John C. Champion. Champion later reworked the story as the 1966 Audie Murphy western, The Texican. The team of Edwards, Champion, Selander, and star Rod Cameron reteamed the following year for the western, Stampede. Edwards would later produce the police drama, City Detective starring Rod Cameron. The series holds the distinction of being the first syndicated television series.

Synopsis

Depuis qu'il a raccroché ses armes de pistolero, John Sands se consacre à la gestion d'un petit commerce dans un village proche du Mexique. Lorsqu'il fait la connaissance de June O'Carroll, il apprend par celle-ci que son frère a été froidement abattu par un groupe de cow-boys à la solde de Matt Garson, dans la ville de Centennial. Propriétaire du saloon de la ville, Garson contrôle une grande partie de la région et y fait appliquer sa propre loi. Sands décide alors de ressortir son artillerie et de mener l'enquête sur place...

Bob and Chito are two unemployed and down on their luck travelling wranglers who help an older man, Ben Jason replace the broken wheel on his wagon in a desolate part of Arizona. For their generosity they are given a gold nugget and an offer of "pick and shovel" work on Ben's place. Visiting Matt Wyatt, an assayer in the nearest town, Bob and Chito are told that the nugget is of such purity that it must be from the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine, a long lost mine that became a legend due it's wealth. Chito reveals that Ben Jason gave them the nugget. Matt schemes with the town boss, Anse Morgan to steal the map of the mine from Ben before he stakes his claim. Ben is murdered with Bob and Chito blamed by Ben's daughter Judy. Bob and Chito break jail and set matters right.
