It stars numerous debutant child artists in the lead roles along with newcomer Vimal and Saroja fame Vega Tamotia in supporting roles. The film, produced by Sasikumar and scored by James Vasanthan, who both rose to fame with the 2008 hit film Subramaniyapuram, released on 1 May 2009 to high critical acclaim, winning three National Film Awards and several other awards at International Film Festivals.
Synopsis
The story unfolds in a dry barren village. Anbukkarasu (Kishore), the protagonist who wants to excel in his life as a Collector and is an encouraging child, comes across Jeevanandam (Sree Raam), the son of the school teacher Chokkalingam(JayaPrakash), on the first day of school. Jeeva develops instant dislike for Anbu. The good-hearted Anbu tries to befriend Jeeva. However, Jeeva continues to hate Anbu with a passion. Enter Manonmani (Dharini), Jeeva's cousin, who develops affinity towards Anbu. This only makes Jeeva detest Anbu further. Not only Anbu excels in academics but also in extracurricular activities, contributes to widening the rift between the two.Anbu's parents have diiferent opinions at Life which develops fight between them and also turns out to be a positive for Jeeva to hurt Anbu further.Actors

The movie opens up intriguingly at a juvenile prison, where four teenage boys Aravind, Madurai, Pandi and Kuttymani (Kishore, Sree Raam, Pandi, Kuttymani) who land up there on charges of raping their classmate. A brief gloomy segment reveals they torture the inmates of juvenile homes undergo at the hands of the wardens. Meanwhile, we see a police officer (Pondy Ravi) who is the benami of a greedy minister Selvanayagam (Jayaprakash) who has entrusted him with a 100 crore property and the former wants to usurp it. He hatches a plan and picks up the four boys for his own benefit and asks them to kidnap the minister.

Ambikapathy ('Pakoda' Pandian) is an orphan runaway who escapes from his cruel uncle to Chennai and eventually ends up at Marina beach. He earns his livelihood by first hawking drinking-water packets and later poached chickpeas to the public visiting Marina beach. His calm and matured manners win him the admiration and later the friendship of other boys employed at the beach. Set in the not so distant future, in the United States, sixteen-year-old Herman Howards makes a fateful decision.
