Add to a movie listPeking Express is a 1951 adventure film made by Paramount Pictures. It is the second remake of Paramount's earlier Shanghai Express (1932), remade as Night Plane from Chungking (1943). It was directed by William Dieterle and produced by Hal B. Wallis, from a screenplay by John Meredyth Lucas, based on the original screenplay by Jules Furthman and Harry Hervey. The music score was composed by Dimitri Tiomkin, the cinematography was by Charles Lang, the art direction by Franz Bachelin and Hal Pereira and the costume design by Edith Head.
The film stars Joseph Cotten, Corinne Calvet and Edmund Gwenn with Marvin Miller.
Synopsis
Michael Bachlin, médecin américain et délégué des Nations unies, monte à bord de l'express pour Pékin. Officiellement, il est chargé de fonder un centre de chirurgie du thorax à Shanghai. Officieusement, il doit rencontrer le chef de l'opposition au régime chinois. John Conroy, a crusading district attorney, is tasked to crack down on a crime syndicate, which proves more dangerous because the mob has many city officials under their control. He is assisted by a newspaper man, Jerry McKibbon, who does not think Conroy is tough enough to handle this almost impossible assignment. Colonial tea planter John Wiley, visiting England at the end of World War II, wins and weds lovely English rose Ruth and takes her home to Elephant Walk, Ceylon, where the local elephants have a grudge against the plantation because it blocks their migrating path.
