Nambirajan (Sathyaraj) and Visky (Goundamani) are best friends. Both of them are very helpful to MLA Arivudaiyan (Nassar) with all his work. Priya (Ammu), Nambirajan’s sister, loves Rakesh, a rich boy. Nambirajan and Rakesh's father Muthiah Pillai (Rajan P. Dev) prepare their engagement. In the function, Muthiah Pillai talks ill about Nambirajan’s poverty and insults him. Muthiah Pillai says he would wed his son with Nambirajan’s sister only when Nambirajan becomes a rich person. Palanisamy (Sathyaraj) is an uneducated man who dreams to marry a teacher and lives with his friend Dhandapani (Goundamani). Palanisamy falls in love with Hamsaveni (Sukanya) at first sight. He decides to go to her village Irugur. Indu and Chandru (Ramba and Karthik) fall in love. Indu does the disappearing act and Chandru gets engaged to Rekha (Mumtaz). Indu re-appears after three years with a little girl, who she claims is Chandru's daughter. Chandru vehemently denies it and finding Indu's presence an embarrassment tries to ferret out the truth. After many scenes of forced comedy, we learn that the girl is the illegitimate daughter of Chandru's much-married brother, who had seduced Indu's sister. After his brother's futile attempt to play the villain, Chandru latches on to Indu fast enough. And with no apology to Rekha. But it is not really Chandru's fault. For Rekha had done the disappearing act from the scene early enough without any explanation either.

Amavasai (Sathyaraj),homeless but egoistic, gets acquainted to politician Manimaran, then MLA of palladam constituency, near tirupur (Manivannan). Amavasai helps Mani with some petty tasks during election campaign and meetings. Amavasai grows into a well acclaimed helper and first associate for Mani. Meanwhile Amavasai falls in love with thayamma(Kasthuri) and one day gives her some drug making her groggy and then deflowers her. Mani instructs Amavasai to stand for MLA election as independent candidate in the coming general election with his support as mani was not given his party ticket. Amavasai wins by huge margin and becomes the MLA. He forgets his relationship with Kasthuri and rejects her pregnancy and child. Kasthuri and her parents move out of that village to avoid humiliation. Soon kasthuri gives birth to a boy and dies. Amavasai forgets Mani's help and forces him in role under him. He changes his name to Nagaraja Cholan for gaining social status. He marries the only daughter of the rich local landlord, Sivakami (Sujatha) and even cheats him of his Palace. Over years Amavasai grows into highly influential and corrupt politician with high criminal affluence. He builds a strong political empire through shortcuts. His ego and pride to remain in power make him kill many. He wins and remains as MLA of palladam in all the general elections for next 20 years.

Rasappan (Sathyaraj) is a useless fellow who loves his sister's daughter Meena (Meena), a graduate girl. Their parents decide to engage them but Meena refuses to marry with a jobless groom. Rasappan challenges them to find a decent job. His uncle (Goundamani) advises him to become a MLA. Rasappan joins Paramasivan's party, Pramasivan (Manivannan) is convinced by his motivation. Meanwhile, villagers dissatisfied of Paramasivan politics, they encourage Velusamy (Vijayakumar) to contend at the MLA election. During the election, Rasappan asks the electors to vote for Velusamy and Rasappan wins it widely. Rasappan becomes an honest MLA and helps his village people, he convinces the villagers to deposit their money in a new bank. The bank manager, Paramasivan's relative, scams Rasappan and the villagers. Rasappan is immediately sent in jail because of Paramasivan's plan. Villagers burn Rasappan's house and steal his properties. Velusamy releases him, Rasappan retrieves the money, gives it back to the villagers and then sends Paramasivan and his partner to jail. Then rasappan goes to chennai to resign as MLA, but The Chief Minister [MN Mambiyar] congratulates Rasappan for his honesty and promotes him as Minister for public works. Back to his village, Paramasivan's henchmen attempt to kill but they fail. Meena accepts to get married with Rasappan.
