Villadhi Villain is a 1995 Tamil Action film directed by Sathyaraj starring himself in three distinct roles. Nagma and Radhika play his love interests. The film, which was Sathyaraj's directorial debut which remains his first and only directorial so far and for whom the film was also his 125th starrer, took a mammooth opening at the box office and emerged a huge success despite mixed reception. It was dubbed in Hindi under the title Ek Aur Dharmatma and in Telugu as Sastry. Both the versions did very well and the film was declared a blockbuster at the box office.

Synopsis

Meenatchi Sundara Sasthiriyaar (Sathyaraj) is a successful and cunning Brahmin lawyer in the city, and has never lost any case. He is known for his sheer intelligence in the court, also he is very brutal in nature having excessive feelings for his caste. He is married to Parvathi (Radhika), whom he always calls as Bombai. Also, they have a beautiful daughter named Janaki (Nagma).

The film begins with the murder of a politician committed by the terrorist Azhagam Perumal (Anandaraj). The corrupt finance minister Ponnurangam (Goundamani) wants to become the central minister therefore he orders Azhagam Perumal for money to create the chaos in Tamil Nadu. So Azhagam Perumal first sets off a bomb in a head office of Ponnurangam's opposite party. 22 people died during the bomb blast. Consequently, the Central Minister (Raadhika Sarathkumar) charges the Anti Terrorist Squad's Assistant Commissioner Suriya (R. Sarathkumar) to track down the terrorist group. Meanwhile, Suriya and Raji fall in love with each other. What transpires next forms the rest of the story.

Pagal Nilavu is in essence the story of Selvam(Murali) an aimless youth in Muttam(Kanyakumari Dist) who out of a sense of deep gratitude ends up joining the gang of Devaraj aka Periyavar(Sathyaraj) and the complications which arise when he falls in love with Jyothi(Revathi), the sister of Robert Manohar(Sarat Babu) an honest and committed police inspector who is newly posted to the town. Periyavar pretty much runs the town and though he helps people in need, he is a diabolical kingpin who will not compromise on his hold of the town for anything. He wins Selvam’s undying loyalty when he helps him with money and power at a critical juncture to save his mother. In this backdrop Robert takes charge and moves into the town with his sister and daughter. Being uncompromising in his morals, Robert is automatically drawn into a game of oneupmanship with Periyavar and his gang. He also consequentially cannot stand Periyavar’s chief henchman Selvam, and is consequentially drawn into continuous verbal and physical duels with him. Selvam meanwhile falls hook line and sinker to Jyothi(Revathi) and tries every trick in the book to woo her and eventually wins.

Priya (Ammu), Nambirajan’s sister, loves Rakesh, a rich boy. Nambirajan and Rakesh's father Muthiah Pillai (Rajan P. Dev) prepare their engagement. In the function, Muthiah Pillai talks ill about Nambirajan’s poverty and insults him. Muthiah Pillai says he would wed his son with Nambirajan’s sister only when Nambirajan becomes a rich person. He also says he would wed his daughter (Abitha) to Nambirajan at that time. Nambirajan accepts this challenge. So he decides to stand in election as an individual party.
