Add to a movie listPauvre Pierrot (aka Poor Pete) is an 1892 French short animated film directed by Charles-Émile Reynaud. It consists of 500 individually painted images and lasts about 15 minutes.
It is one of the first animated films ever made, and alongside Le Clown et ses chiens and Un bon bock was exhibited in October 1892 when Charles-Émile Reynaud opened his Théâtre Optique at the Musée Grévin. It was the first film to demonstrate the Theatre Optique system developed by Reynaud in 1888. Pauvre Pierrot is also believed to be the first known usage of film perforations. The combined performance of all three films was known as Pantomimes Lumineuses.
These were the first animated pictures publicly exhibited by means of picture bands. Reynaud gave the entire presentation himself by manipulating the images.
Synopsis
Une nuit, Arlequin vient voir son amour, Colombine. Mais, alors que Pierrot frappe à la porte, Arlequin se cache. Pierrot offre des fleurs à Colombine puis s'en va. Peu après, Pierrot, revient pour jouer de la mandoline à Colombine, mais Arlequin lui fait peur avec un bâton, et le pauvre homme s'enfuit.Actors

Deux femmes en sous-vêtements saluent en direction de la caméra, subitement les voilà habillées. Elles se recouvrent d'un voile et réapparaissent en hommes qui commencent à se battre. At a meeting of the Astronomic Club, its president, Professor Barbenfouillis, proposes a trip to the Moon. After addressing some dissent, five other brave astronomers—Nostradamus, Alcofrisbas, Omega, Micromegas, and Parafaragaramus—agree to the plan. They build a space capsule in the shape of a bullet, and a huge cannon to shoot it into space. The astronomers embark and their capsule is fired from the cannon with the help of "marines", most of whom are played by a bevy of young women in sailors' outfits. The Man in the Moon watches the capsule as it approaches, and it hits him in the eye.
