The film is a story about an old actress who is diagnosed with leukaemia. Her son Alex struggles to cope with her illness and escapes into a warped fantasy that he is living in the late night television repeats of different series that his mother once appeared in. By day he works as a waiter in a Melbourne cafe, where he acts out various scenarios to fussy customers and to a drug peddling co worker. By night, he dresses up as some kind of security officer and stalks the urban streets. Along the way he meets a variety of characters and becomes captivated with a transgender artist known as Miss Chrissy, who performs in drag as Chrissy Amphlett.
The films stars Jude Kuring, Tim Burns, Polly Stanton, Matt Thomas, Margo McLennan and Cameron Nugent.
Prisoner Queen screened in USA, Ireland, Germany, New Zealand, Canada and the UK. It screened in Melbourne at The Kino cinema in conjunction with the Melbourne Underground Film Festival in 2005, at the Academy Twin in Sydney and The Paramount Theatre in Wellington in 2004. In February 2009, the Australian Centre for the Moving Image announced a tribute to Jude Kuring highlighting her acting career with screenings of "Prisoner Queen", amongst other notable screen performances.
Available on DVD as of 22 March 2012.
Jude Kuring took on the role after a 20 year absence from acting.
Margo McLennan and Tim Burns appeared in a car commercial before working together again on this film.
Melbourne actress Polly Stanton appears with her real life mother, Jill Forster in a scene where she is car jacked.
Lead singer of The Mavis's, Matt Thomas plays a drag queen version of Divinyls lead singer Chrissy Amphlett.
Tim Burns, Matt Thomas, Michael Burkett and Polly Stanton all took on major roles in Spanos's next film Nancy Nancy. Prisoner Queen is so far the only Australian feature film in the 21st century to feature a male-to-female transgender character.

A berserk motorcycle gang member named Crawford "Nightrider" Montazano (Vincent Gil), having killed a rookie officer of an Australian highway patrol called the Main Force Patrol (MFP) while escaping from police custody, is attempting to outrun the other MFP officers in a stolen Pursuit Special. Though he manages to elude his initial pursuers, the MFP's top pursuit-man, Max Rockatansky (Mel Gibson), then engages the less-skilled Nightrider in a high-speed chase. During a sudden game of "chicken", the Nightrider breaks off first, his nerve suddenly broken in the confrontation with Max; he is unable to recover his wits, which leads to the Nightrider's death in a fiery crash.

Evan Danielson (Eddie Murphy) is a very successful financial advisor, who had been working at the same securities firm for eight years as their top account manager, that is until Johnny Whitefeather (Thomas Haden Church) was hired as his rival. In Jubilee, Queen Elizabeth I (Jenny Runacre) is transported forward in time by the occultist John Dee (Richard O'Brien) through the spirit guide Ariel (a character from Shakespeare's The Tempest). Gomez Addams laments the 25-year absence of his brother Fester, who disappeared after the two had a falling-out.
