Professor Beware is a 1938 comedy film starring Harold Lloyd and directed by Elliott Nugent. This was Phyllis Welch MacDonald's first and only film.

Synopsis

Three thousand years after ancient egyptian Neferus's death, Professor Dean Lambert (who looks like Neferus) is translating his history tablet by tablet. Dean is convinced that falling in love will ruin him as it did Neferus, whose love to the Pharoah's daughter led to his downfall. He meets aspiring actress and heiress Jane Van Buren and exchanges clothes with her drunk audition partner, Snoop Donlan. Dean is arrested for stinking of liquor. His arrest makes the papers and he is asked to resign from the museum staff. Dean has ten days to join an expedition leaving for Egypt from New York and becomes a stowaway in the trailer of a pair of newlyweds bound for Niagara Falls. Snoop then accuses Dean of stealing his watch and clothes. Jane, meanwhile, follows the trailer in order to return Dean's clothes and the museum's car. The newlyweds kick Dean out, while the police trail him on suspicion of robbery and jumping bail. Jane then finds Dean and urges him to clear himself, but he convinces her to keep going to New York. While fleeing the police, Jane and Dean camp in the desert, and he falls in love and kisses her. The kiss causes a storm to break, just like the story of Neferus and Anebi. Dean is struck by lightning and begins speaking in a strange language.

Lorsque Gerald l'accuse de n'avoir aucune idée de ce qu'est d'être une épouse, de colère elle accepte le divorce, alors qu'elle l'aime encore et qu'elle n'a en réalité pas d'amant. Lisa insiste pour que Flora soit présente alors qu'ils discutent des aspects financiers du divorce et invite le couple à assister à son spectacle à l'opéra et à la rejoindre pour dîner ensuite. Finalement Gerald et Lisa se réconcilient et décident de partir en Amérique du Sud.

Phyllis et Martin deviennent amants pendant que Brighton est en voyage d'affaires au Mexique. À son retour, le couple se querelle, et elle avoue sa relation avec Martin et le quitte. Elle commence à travailler comme vendeuse dans un magasin chic, mais refuse d'épouser Martin. Un soir, Brighton la rencontre dans le magasin et lui demande de revenir avec lui. Homer (Charles Ruggles) and Marcia Bigelow (Mary Boland) are a happily married couple. Visiting novelist J. Hugh Ramsey (Adolphe Menjou) considers himself both too wise to ever marry and, through hubris, qualified to offer his own wild theories on what constitutes a happy marriage. He had thus written a best selling novel titled Marriage, the Living Death. Ramsey decides that the Bigelow marriage could not possibly be as perfect as it appears, and convinces Homer that his wife must be secretly unhappy because she had never had the opportunity to forgive the morally spotless Homer for any misdeed. Wishing to please, Homer decides to involve himself in a trist so that Marcia would then have something for which she could forgive him. He chooses French actress Renée La Journée (Vivienne Osborne) who is performing nearby. Ramsey learns of the affair and discovers that the La Journée turns out to be the one love of his life that he had lost years earlier.
