Add to a movie listThe Atlantis Interceptors (also known as Raiders of Atlantis and Atlantis Inferno; original title I predatori di Atlantide) is a 1983 Italian science fiction film starring Christopher Connelly and directed by Ruggero Deodato.
The film was heavily influenced by George Miller's 1979 vision of outback hell, Mad Max, and its sequel, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, and John Carpenter's dystopian view of a future New York, Escape From New York (1980) and was only one of seemingly countless imitations, such as Bronx Warriors, Rome, The New Gladiators, and The New Barbarians. Very much action-oriented, the films often featured heavy doses of violence and brutality.
Two Vietnam-vets and several scientists face an extraordinary battle for survival against descendants of Atlantis' original race, when the Lost Continent emerges in the Caribbean following radioactive leakage from a sunken Russian nuclear submarine. Calling themselves "Interceptors", the murderous Atlanteans set about reclaiming the world by killing everyone and destroying everything in sight. It is up to Mike, Washington and Dr. Cathy Rollins to uncover the secret behind their existence and use it against them in order to stop the interceptors' apocalyptic rampage.
The Atlantis Interceptors, aka, Raiders of Atlantis, was released in 1982/83 in the UK on videotape, but is still unavailable on DVD as a mainstream release. The version available in a recent Grindhouse collection in the US is poorly transferred from VHS and in full screen.
Synopsis

A group of oil prospectors travel to an outpost in a jungle on the island of Mindanao. A rough landing damages the plane. The two prospectors Robert (Massimo Foschi) and Rolf (Ivan Rassimov) find the abandoned remains of the original prospecting camp. Later, a member of the team goes missing. The two prospectors and their pilot go into the jungle, and the pilot is killed. The two prospectors then discover that the missing team member was eaten by cannibals. After getting seperated in the jungle, Robert is kidnapped by a stone-age cannibal tribe. The tribe subjects Robert to various tortures, including tying him up, stripping him nude and fondling his genitals, and repeatedly dropping him with a bungee cord. The cannibals then imprison Robert in a cave, where he is starved.

Having massacred an Indian village, outlaw Duncan finds his men falling victim to a solitary rider, Navajo Joe. Joe saves three prostitutes who have overheard Duncan plot with Lynne, the town doctor, to steal a train full of money belonging to the bank. Joe steals the train back from Duncan's gang. He asks the townspeople of Esperanza to pay him to protect them from Duncan, making an offer of "I want a dollar a head from every man in this town for every bandit I kill". The townspeople reject him, as they "don't make bargains with Indians." Lynne's wife Honor persuades them otherwise. Joe sets a trap for Duncan but is caught and tortured; Lynne and Honor are killed. Rescued by an old man from the saloon, Joe again steals the train and eradicates Duncan's gang. There is then a showdown in an Indian cemetery, where Joe reclaims the pendant which Duncan stole from his wife when he murdered her. As Joe turns, Duncan shoots Joe with a hidden gun. Injured, Joe grabs a tomahawk and throws it, hitting Duncan square in the forehead. With Duncan dead, Joe sends his horse back to town, carrying the Bank's money.

Colonel Jonas is a fanatical and unrepentant Confederate who led a regiment called the Hellbenders in the recently ended Civil War. Similar to Edmond O'Brien's character in Rio Conchos, he is determined to reorganise the Southern Army and defeat the Union. With his sons Ben, greedy Nat, and rapist Jeff, he massacres Union soldiers transporting a consignment of banknotes and conceals the loot in a coffin supposedly belonging to a deceased Confederate officer, Captain Ambrose who was killed in the Battle of Nashville.

Concorde Test Flight 820 is sabotaged which forces the plane to crash land in the ocean off coast of Martinique in the Antillies of the Caribbean. The film is set in a heroic fantasy world. The Ragnicks, a tribe of peaceful travelling entertainers, are attacked by the evil tyrant Kadar, who takes their queen Canary hostage. Canary, however, manages to hide her magic ruby, the lucky talisman of the Ragnicks which Kadar seeks to bolster his power. Two young twins from the tribe, Kutchek and Gore, bite off two of Kadar's fingers. In retaliation, Kadar has them taken prisoner as well, but agrees to spare their lives if Canary becomes his bride.

An American film crew has gone missing in the Amazon rainforest while on an expedition to film a documentary about indigenous cannibal tribes. The team consists of Alan Yates, the director; Faye Daniels, his girlfriend and script girl; and two cameramen, Jack Anders and Mark Tomaso. Harold Monroe, an anthropologist at New York University, agrees to lead a rescue team in hopes of finding the missing filmmakers alive. In anticipation of his arrival, the military conducts a raid on a local tribe known as the Yacumo and takes a young Yacumo male hostage in order to help negotiate with the natives. Monroe flies in via floatplane and is introduced to his guides, Chaco and his assistant, Miguel.
