Rear Window (1998) is an American television movie directed by Jeff Bleckner. The teleplay by Larry Gross and Eric Overmyer is an updated adaptation of the classic 1954 feature film directed by Alfred Hitchcock, which was based on the short story "It Had to Be Murder" by Cornell Woolrich. It was broadcast in the US by ABC on November 22, 1998. This stars Christopher Reeve (in one of his final screen appearances), Daryl Hannah, and Robert Forster.
Synopsis
Jason Kemp est un ancien architecte, aujourd'hui tétraplégique. Cloué dans son fauteuil roulant, il passe son temps à espionner ses voisins depuis la fenêtre de son appartement. Lorsqu'un jour Julian Thorpe bat sa femme Ilene, Jason décide d'appeler immédiatement la police. Mais Thorpe est finalement libéré un jour plus tard. Cette nuit-là, Jason entend un cri perçant. Le lendemain, il s'aperçoit qu'eIle n'est plus à son domicile, et qu'elle a semble-t-il été remplacée par une autre femme. The story follows the characters of Molly (Bledel), a struggling waitress, and Gus (Levi), a jewelry store employee. Gus and Molly met through a chance encounter when Gus is at Molly's diner ordering a coffee. Molly sees Gus making notes in his pen recorder and when he goes round back to take a phone call leaves a message on it saying her name. Molly and Gus then begin to date, and it is learned that Gus has a memory defect where he can not make new memories and forgets the day every time he sleeps. Trouble ensues as he does not tell Molly this and she finds him recording all their meetings. Gus tries to explain, but Molly mistakes this for being odd. A few weeks later and Molly returns to the apartment to find Gus's sister who explains and gives her the scrapbook Gus made entitled "Molly" he made to remember her. Molly visits the hospital where Gus Is under observation and introduces herself as his girlfriend and gives him the scrapbook so he can remember their relationship. We learn that Gus was meant to be the next Einstein working at Nasa in California, before his accident. Molly takes Gus there, where he meets old colleagues who tell him his work will help understand the universe much better. Whilst there Molly meets Gus's ex girlfriend who warns her any serious relationship with Gus will mean he won't remember their kids and other events in the long-term, and Gus also tells her to leave him if an operation to cure his disease does not work. Gus's sister tells Molly that Gus has already had this operation, however, but that it did not work. That night Molly sees a note on Gus's laptop for his to do list for the next day "Ask Molly to marry me". Molly deletes the note as a result of what Gus had told her to do and Gus wakes up the next day having never remembered Molly. Molly continues her life with a quarter million pounds she got from her great Aunt's will and starts a flower business. One day, at a wedding, a shooting star appears and Molly is reminded of Gus. She visits him the next day and hints to Gus that they know each other and asks him for coffee. The movie ends.

The story may not be linear and exhibits several instances of temporal disruption. A dark-haired woman (Harring) escapes her own murder, surviving a car accident on Mulholland Drive. Injured and in shock, she descends into Los Angeles and sneaks into an apartment which an older, red-headed woman has just vacated. An aspiring actress named Betty Elms (Watts) arrives at the same apartment and finds the dark-haired woman confused, not knowing her own name. The dark-haired woman assumes the name "Rita" after seeing a poster for the film Gilda (1946), starring Rita Hayworth. To help Rita remember her identity, Betty looks in Rita's purse, where she finds a large amount of money and an unusual blue key.

A man named Alderson awakens in a cube-shaped room with a hatch in each wall, the ceiling and the floor, each of which leads to other cube-shaped rooms, identical except for their color. He enters an orange room and, without warning, is killed by a trap. In another such room, five people – Quentin, Worth, Holloway, Rennes, and Leaven – meet. None of them knows where they are or how they got there. Quentin informs the others that some rooms contain traps, which he learned by nearly being killed by one. Rennes assumes each trap is triggered by a motion detector and tests each room by throwing one of his boots in first. Leaven notices numbers inscribed in the passageways between rooms. Quentin, a policeman, recognizes Rennes as "the Wren", an escape artist renowned for getting out of jails. After declaring one room trap-free, Rennes enters and is killed when he is sprayed with acid. The others realize that there are different kinds of detectors, and Quentin deduces that this trap was triggered by heat.

A series of newspaper articles details the 1949 murder of pianist Margaret Strauss (Emma Thompson), who was stabbed with a pair of antique scissors during an apparent robbery. An anklet worth thousands of dollars is missing. Her husband, composer Roman Strauss (Kenneth Branagh), is found guilty of the crime and sentenced to death. In 1917, Baby Jane Hudson is a vaudevillian child star while her sister Blanche Hudson is not famous and overlooked by their father.
