It is a feature film remake of the 1967 TV series Masked Ninja Red Shadow (仮面の忍者赤影, Kamen no Ninja Akakage), created by Mitsuteru Yokoyama. The film stars Masanobu Ando in the title role and features a guest star appearance of Tomoyasu Hotei returning from the 1998 spin-off and virtual prequel Samurai Fiction.
Synopsis
Japon, 1545. Akakage, Asuka et Aokage sont trois enfants qui ont été élevés depuis leur plus jeune âge par un maître Ninja, Shirokage. Dans la pure tradition, ils deviennent ensuite tous les trois guerriers Ninjas, devant œuvrer dans l'ombre. Ils servent avec leur maître, le tout puissant seigneur Togo. Un autre clan, le Kyogoku est rongé de l'intérieur par l'homme de "confiance" du souverain qui ne tarde pas à mourir empoisonné par ce traître. Il décide ainsi de faire assassiner la princesse Koto, héritière du pouvoir, car le souverain n'a pas eu de fils. Pour parvenir à ses fins, il s'octroie les services d'un autre groupe de ninjas qui seront confrontés à nos trois héros.Actors

The plot centers on Inukai Heishirō (Mitsuru Fukikoshi), the son of a clan officer. One of his clan's most precious heirlooms, a sword given them by the Shogun, has been stolen by the samurai Kazamatsuri (Tomoyasu Hotei). The film tells about a Japanese door-to-door insurance salesman, Tsuda Yoshiharu, who takes up boxing after some chance meetings with a former high school friend, Kojima Yakuji. Tsuda lives a more or less uneventful life. He has a fiance, Hizuru, who one day invites Kojima in to Tsuda's apartment. Kojima comes onto Hizuru, who rejects him. Still, Tsuda finds out and gets enraged at Kojima, but Kojima beats Tsuda to a pulp and humiliates him to the point where it strains his relationship with Hizuru. Hizuru is intrigued by the animalistic Kojima, and ends up moving in with him. She also starts to pierce herself and get tattoos. She wants to box, but is denied that life by the surprisingly cowardly Kojima, who says she is a scary freak of a woman.

A lone gunman travels to the town of Yuta, which is run by the warring clans of the white-colored Genji and red-colored Heike. After ignoring requests from both clans to join them, he is given shelter by a woman named Ruriko, who takes care of her mute grandson Heihachi. Ruriko tells the gunman that many years ago, the town prospered in gold mining until both clans fought over the gold and drove away the population. The Heike-aligned sheriff tells the gunman that in the midst of the chaos, a Heike man named Akira married a Genji woman named Shizuka and lived peacefully with their son Heihachi, until Heike leader Kiyomori killed Akira in cold blood, rendering Heihachi mute from the trauma. Seeking protection for her son, Shizuka became a prostitute for the Genji. Since then, Heihachi has been tending to a trio of red and white roses, waiting for the day they bloom.

In the year 2009, Joe Jinno, a Navy SEAL who is court-martialed for disobeying orders, is sent to Tokyo to assist Det. Aguri Katsuragi stop the distribution of the illegal drug known as Blood Heat.
