Return Engagement, also known as Hong Kong Corruptor is a 1990 Hong Kong action drama film directed by Joe Cheung and starring Alan Tang, Elizabeth Lee, May Lo and Simon Yam, with a guest appearance by Andy Lau.

Synopsis

Return Engagement tells the story of Lung (Alan Tang), a Triad boss who is sent to prison in Canada. While he is in jail his daughter is taken to Hong Kong to keep her safe. On his release Lung travels to Hong Kong to find his daughter where he meets a young Triad, Wah (Andy Lau) who knows of his reputation and respects him greatly.

Alan Chan (Alan Tang) and Cheung Ho-tin (Chow Yun-fat) are orphans wandering in the streets of Macau who became sworn brothers together, they make a living by stealing. One day, while Tin was stealing food in a church, he is discovered by Ho Ka-hei (Pat Ha), who encourages him not to steal and subsequently brings food to him and his friends everyday until one day, when Ka-hei was adopted and the two farewell in tears. Alan and Tin struggles very hard and finally succeeds and become triad leaders. During a gang warfare, Alan and Tin kill Chiu, the underling of a major Macau triad leader Ko Lo-sei (Patrick Tse). Ko mobilizes his men to seek revenge but the strong-willed Alan strikes back. Then, the cunning Ko pretends to reconcile with Alan and provides news for Alan to traffick arms in Thailand. However, the arms dealer turns out to be Ko's rival, Uncle Pui, and Alan nearly lost his life. With his extraordinary courage, Alan gains Pui's trust and successfully makes business. At the same time, Alan also meets Macau singer Jenny and falls in love with her and brings her back to Macau. While Alan was highlighting danger in Thailand, Tin re-encounters Ka-hei in a Catholic school and after lay each other's heart bare, they get engaged. However, Ka-hei requests Tin to leave the underworld and wants to lead a peaceful life in Hong Kong. Tin summons his courage to tell Alan about this, but Alan, while preparing big business with Tin, becomes enraged. Having to choose between his lover and his brother, Tin sadly leaves Alan. When Ko discovers that Alan safely returned from Thailand, he falls out with him and annexes all his purchased arms, formally declaring war with Alan. Later, Alan falls into Ko's trap and becomes encircled where his underlings are fully wiped out and Jenny is also killed from protecting him. Alan decides to single-highhandedly deal with Ko. In Hong Kong, Tin hears news of it and leaves his beloved wife and returns to Macau to fight with Ko alongside Alan in a gunfight where after a fierce battle, the trio dies together.

Alan Lung is the adopted son of Taiwanese triad leader Lung Yat-fu. Alan is highly favored by Lung, who appoints him as his successor over his two biological sons Simon and Bowie. While hiding in Hong Kong with his crippled wife Monica, Alan is dragged back into the triad life by Andy’s incessant activities and the reappearance of Leon. Finally, Alan decides to go back to Taiwan and get even with Simon.

Black Cougar (Alan Tang) is a professional thief who charges high fees and had never made a mistake. One night, Cougar was hired by minister Chu (Melvin Wong) to steal a silver box to test the newly installed security system in the police headquarters. Panthers then assembles his team of acquaintances possessing special skills to assistant. They include dart-thrower Madam Rose (Carrie Ng), sharpshooter Mang-po Fai (Tony Leung), gambling expert and card thrower Black Jack Love (Simon Yam), computer genius Robert Parkinson (Dicky Cheung), and Cougar's junior fellow apprentice, Ching-ching (Brigitte Lin). During their operation, they realized that in order for them to activate the security system, they would need to obtain the weight of police officer Fat Wong (Sze Kai-keung) and the fingerprints of his partner Enna (Elsie Chan). When they finally obtain the fingerprints and weight of the two, Cougar proceeds to steal the silver box on his own. However, Cougar was ambushed and was abducted and trapped in a cell by his senior fellow apprentice Bloody Wolf (Yuen Wah). While Wolf was torturing Cougar, Cougar's assistant, Chan-chan (Jennifer Chan) comes to rescue him. Ching-ching also comes and fights Chan-chan, revealing the later to be a traitor. Ching-ching tells Cougar that this was all a setup by Wolf, which originated ten years ago when Wolf killed their mentor and faked his own death in order to obtain the "Cougar Head Blade". Chan-chan also comes back to confess and apologize for her betrayal and reveals that the silver box contains a photographic paper, which turns to be a photo showing Wolf killing his mentor. Cougar therefore decides to battle to the death with Wolf.

Big Dog becomes Fei's disciple and Little Dog becomes Pang's disciple. Meanwhile, a local young kung fu fanatic Sei Leng Chai (Stephen Tung) is trying to create his own kung fu style and befriends a wandering winemaker Fei Chai (Sammo Hung), who is an expert martial artist. Fei Chai advises Sei Leng Chai to learn every style of kung fu he can and he starts studying from Fei Chai, Fei and Pang. Later, it is revealed that Yeung is actually Chin's kung fu senior and he sent his fake sons to study under them to understand their styles more. Chin wants to cripple Fei and Pang to avenge Yeung. As they fight, Sei Leng Chai comes to help and the brothers eventually reconcile their brotherhood. Sei Leng kills Chin and Yeung arrives to defeat and capture Sei Leng Chai while Fei Chai comes to the rescue and kills Yeung.

It is revealed that Brown actually engulfed a huge sum of money from a Japanese company, which leads Yakuza member Hoshida (Michael Chan) to Hong Kong to find out the truth. Hoshida, who was originally named Pu, was Shirley's ex-husband when the former was a triad member in Hong Kong. When Browns learns about this relationship, he tells Fan to depart from Hong Kong and let him negotiate in Japan. Unexpectedly, Brown betrays Fan, and the Yakuza tries to kill Kit and Fan and later kills Kit and Cindy. Fan also unintentionally learns of Hoshida and Shirley's relationship and Fan decides to battle to death with the Yakuza.
