Add to a movie listReturn to Glennascaul, also known as Orson Welles' Ghost Story, is a 1951 short film starring Orson Welles. It was written and directed by Hilton Edwards and produced by Micheál MacLiammóir for Dublin Gate Theatre Productions.
The plot is derived from the ubiquitous story of the vanishing hitchhiker. It is similar to Lucille Fletcher's original radio play, The Hitch-Hiker, which was first performed in 1941 on the Orson Welles Show starring Welles as the spooked driver.
Synopsis
Welles (playing himself), taking a break from the filming of Othello, is driving in the Irish countryside one night when he offers a ride to a man with car trouble. The man relates a strange event that happened to him at the same location. Two women flagged down his car one evening, asking for a ride back to their manor. They invited him in for a drink, and after leaving, he went back for his cigarette case. He found the manor deserted and decayed. In Dublin, a real estate broker told him the mother and daughter had died years ago. Welles, sufficiently spooked, drops the man off at his home and leaves in a hurry when the man asks him in for a cup of tea or something stronger as the ghostly women had earlier invited him into Glennascaul. As Welles drives off he passes two other stranded women who wave for a ride, flesh and blood women who recognize the famous actor behind the wheel.Actors

Alexandre Dumas, Sr. (Berry Kroeger) tells his son Alexander Dumas, Jr. (Raymond Burr) the story of Joseph Balsamo (Orson Welles). Through flashbacks we learn that Balsamo was a French gypsy boy who endured much hardship. He was tortured under the command of Viscount de Montagne (Stephen Bekassy) and his parents were ordered to hang. Some years later, he learns the secrets of hypnosis from Dr. Mesmer (Charles Goldner). Ignoring the doctor's advice that he use his powers for healing, he exploits his new talent to the full; gaining wealth, fame and prestige. After changing his name to Count Cagliostro, he becomes famous all over Europe. Things begin to go downhill when he enters a plot to substitute a young girl called Lorenza (Nancy Guild) for the French queen Marie Antoinette along with gypsies Gitano (Akim Tamiroff) and Zoraida (Valentina Cortese).

Malpertuis is the name of an old, rambling mansion which is in reality a labyrinth where characters from Greek mythology are imprisoned by the bedridden Cassavius (Welles). He manages to keep them (as well as his nephew and niece) prisoners even after his death, through a binding testament. As Jan, the nephew, (Carrière) unravels the mystery, he discovers that he cannot escape the house because Malpertuis is far more significant than he was led to believe.

Au début du Moyen Âge, les steppes de Russie sont sous la domination des Tartares, qui ne permettent qu'aux Vikings de passer en provenance des pays du nord. L'alliance est rompue lorsqu'Oleg, le chef des Vikings, refuse de se joindre à Togrul le Tartare dans sa guerre contre les Slaves. Oleg tue Togrul et prend sa fille Samia en otage. Le frère de Togrul, Burandai, devenu chef, capture en représailles Helga, la femme d'Oleg, et la livre à ses hommes. Un échange de prisonniers est envisagé mais Samia est tombé amoureuse d'Éric, le jeune frère d'Oleg, et ne veut pas partir. De plus Helga est incapable de supporter sa honte et se jette du haut d'une tour. Oleg et Éric se disputent à propos du sort de Samia, mais ils sont interrompus par l'arrivée des Tartares. Oleg et Burandai trouvent la mort dans la bataille qui s'ensuit et la forteresse viking est détruite par un incendie. Éric et Samia arrivent à s'échapper et trouvent refuge sur un navire qui les conduit dans le Grand Nord.

Illibatezza ("Chastity") by Roberto Rossellini is a story of a beautiful stewardess which attracts unwanted attention from one of the air travelers - a middle aged American. The two overnight by chance in the same hotel. She has a fiancé back home, to whom she sends 8mm films made with her camera. These show how, in order to shoo away the unwanted flirtatious attentions of the traveler, all she had to do was to act in an aggressively provocative way; his sexual attraction being fueled by the shyness with which she initially tried to endure his advances.

Cardinal Wolsey, the Lord Chancellor of England, summons Sir Thomas More to Hampton Court. King Henry VIII of England wishes to divorce his wife and marry Anne Boleyn. Saying that England needs a male heir to prevent another civil war, Wolsey chastises More for being the only member of the Privy Council to argue against him. When More states that the Pope will never grant a divorce, he is appalled by Wolsey's suggestion that they apply "pressure" on Church lands to force the issue.
