Synopsis
C'est l'été le plus chaud depuis 150 ans. A Francfort, les ordures ménagères ne sont plus ramassés à la suite d'une grève des éboueurs que la bourgmestre laisse pourrir. Parallèlement les hôpitaux sont débordés par une épidémie de grippe. La jeune docteur Katrin Elder n'a pas le temps de s'occuper de sa fille, celle-ci voulant secourir son chien tombé dans un égout se retrouve coincée derrière une grille, elle est sauvée par Frank Dabrock, un pilote d’hélicoptère de la protection spéciale contre les incendies. Pour la sauver il a du couper l'alimentation électrique d'une partie de la ville dont celle alimentant le Bourse de Francfort. Par représailles la bourgmestre le rétrograde au service des égouts dans la lutte contre les rats. Il se trouve donc on centre des opérations quand la situation se dégrade, les rats se sont multipliés pendant la grève et lorsque des équipes viennent ramasser les ordures, les rats montent à la surface, deviennent agressif et propagent un virus mortel. Une course poursuite va alors s'engager d'une part Febock qui va tenter d'exterminer les rats et d'autre part Katrin Elder qui va tenter de récupérer le docteur Waldemar dont l'organisme a fabriqué des anticorps afin de tenter de produire un vaccin.Actors

Trois ans après l'invasion des rats dans Francfort, Frank Dabrock, Stuffz, Honsa et Katrin vont au mariage de leur ami Axel. Peu après leur arrivée, l'assistante d'Axel est retrouvé morte déchiquetée dans sa baignoire - prétendument tué par son chien molosse. Mais Katrin est sûr que ce n'était pas un chien qui a tué la jeune femme, mais des rats. Lorsqu'un autre cadavre se retrouve dans le système du canal peu de temps après, l'hypothèse de Katrin devient certaine : les rats attaquent de nouveau. Voulant explorer un hangar le groupe est poursuivi par une meute de rats et Frank Dabrock perd la vie. Stuffz prend la tête du groupe. Aidé par une jeune femme Svenja, il découvre que les rats sont moddifié géntiquement afin qu'ils ne supportent plus les basses températures. Il projette donc au cours d'une nuit froide de les atirées dans le seul endroit qui sera chauffé cette nuit là et de tout faire exploser.

Eight teenagers, including Brady (Mark McLachlan), Claire (Caitlin Martin), Duncan (Chris Solari), Kit (D. W. Reiser), Annabelle (Julie Mintz), Sunny (Summer Knight), Foster (Rhett Jordan) and Hubs (Greg Wayne) are going on a weekend boat trip on a remote lake in Southern California for spring break. As the group are about to depart on their boat, they are warned by Sheriff Bowman (Harrison Young) to be sensible and keep out of danger. After a day of partying, the group have a bonfire, where Kit tells them a local story about how in the early 1900s, 96 years ago, a hotel owner named Harlan featured a crocodile named Flat Dog at his hotel. He goes on to say that Harlan eventually sets up a shrine to Flat Dog, believing her to be an avatar to the ancient Egyptian crocodile god (Sobek), creating a cult that worshiped the crocodile. The town eventually ran Harlan away because of his heathenism and torched his hotel years later when Kit was a kid. Close by, two local fishermen destroy a crocodile nest, only for them both to be attacked by Flat Dog, who devours them both.

In Burundi, a British forensic anthropologist is examining the corpses in a mass grave, claiming they were all killed in an identical manner. When the woman digs her shovel into what she believes is another grave, an unseen creature attacks, and violently drags her into the river. Tom Newman, a hydro-electrical engineer, arrives in Africa with his family to help build a dam. His daughter, Jessica, isn't getting along with her stepmother, Amy, because she is not happy about her parents divorce. The next morning, Amy, Jessica and her brother David go on a game drive with Brian, a ranger, while Tom goes to the dam. While driving off-road, David asks the ranger to stop the jeep because he has to defecate. Brian grabs his rifle and escorts David to a nearby tree. They encounter two lionesses, backed by a lion behind them. One lioness attacks and David runs back to the car, where Brian sacrifices himself to save the others. The keys lost, Amy, Jessica, and David are trapped in the car and stalked by the lions, who devour Brian. Back at the lodge, Tom is informed of his family's disappearance, and attempts to contact Crawford, a professional hunter and guide, at the suggestion of the park rangers. Crawford refuses to help him, as he is a big five hunt guide, not a leader of search parties. The next day, after not being able to accompany the rangers in the air, Tom goes to see Crawford, and manages to hire his services at the latter's own price. Back in the car, David spots Brian's keys, and Amy retrieves them, only to wreck the truck when she drives the wrong way. Crawford and Tom look for signs of them while checking in on the rangers trail periodically, but the rain the previous night has washed away any tracks. When the rangers fly by without noticing them, Jessica gets out and tries to draw their attention. She fails and, along with Amy, is attacked by one lioness, which is killed by two native hunters.

Fin Shepard and his ex-wife April Wexler are flying to New York City to promote How to Survive a Sharknado and Other Unnatural Disasters, a book April has written about the Los Angeles sharknado. As the plane comes in for a landing through a storm, it is battered by airborne sharks, losing an engine. Sharks enter the plane, killing passengers and crew, including both pilots. While Fin successfully lands the plane, April's hand is bitten off by a shark while she attempts to shoot it with an air marshal's handgun.
