Marc Kelber, marchand de tableaux, achète un Gauguin, deux millions. Le tableau se révélant être un faux, il recherche l'escroc Jacques Lacroix et se laisse enrôler dans sa bande qui comprend le peintre Claude Watroff et sa maîtresse Viviane.
