It is the second movie of Sergio Sollima centered on the character of Cuchillo, again played by Tomas Milian, after the two-years earlier successful western The Big Gundown. It is also the final chapter of the political-western trilogy of Sollima, and his last spaghetti western. According the same Sollima, Run, Man, Run is the most politic, the most revolutionary and even anarchic among his movies.
Synopsis
When Cuchillo returns to his hometown in Mexico he soon finds himself in prison, sharing a cell with desperado Ramirez. Thus he's present when Ramirez breaks out. He accompanies his new buddy who is killed little later by bandits. Cuchillo learns that Ramirez once rode with Benito Juárez. The killers believe Ramirez knew the whereabouts of a 3 million dollars hidden by Juarez. Now that Ramirez is dead they presume he has bequeathed his secret to Cuchillo. But Cuchillo makes it hard on them to catch him.Actors

During the Mexican Revolution, a peasant named El Vasco (Milian) starts a revolt in his town by killing the army colonel in charge. Rebel leader and self-appointed General Mongo (Bódalo) soon arrives on the scene and hires El Vasco to his revolutionary gang. However, Mongo is more interested in gaining fortune for himself than for his country. Yodlaf Peterson (Nero), a Swedish mercenary arrives in Mexico to sell guns to General Mongo. The safe containing the money is locked and only Professor Xantos (Rey) knows the combination. Xantos is the leader of a student counter-revolution that opposes violence, and is held in a prison by the United States army, after he tried to find funding from the US and did not agree to give the monopoly of his country's entire oil wealth in return.

Western & Atlantic Railroad train engineer Johnnie Gray (Keaton) is in Marietta, Georgia to see one of the two loves of his life, his fiancee Annabelle Lee (Marion Mack)—the other being his locomotive, The General—when the American Civil War breaks out.
