Synopsis

L'action se déroule dans un contexte actuel (2010-2015), dans un lycée autrichien (relativement loin de Vienne), et dans les divers lieux où peuvent sortir et se rencontrer des jeunes de cet âge, surtout féminins, mais pas exclusivement, avec tous les jeux d'attraction, séduction, jalousie, incompréhension, exclusion... dans les soirées, les fins de semaine, et au lycée.

Gray Baldwin (Heather Graham), a family oriented and quiet bachelorette, lives a close-knit life with her brother, Sam (Tom Cavanagh). While discussing with each other what they can do about their single lifestyles, and how they can "hook each other up" with a significant other, their conversation continues to the park, where Gray spots a possible girlfriend for Sam, Charlie Kelsey (Bridget Moynahan). Gray introduces herself, then Charlie to Sam, and they instantly bond, agreeing to see each other again.

A few days later, Ted dies during a race and the police get involved when Detective Frank Walker (John Schneider) investigates Ted's death which happened under questionable circumstances. Ted's lawyer, George Stuben (Ethan S. Smith), suddenly announces during the reading of the will that Carson cannot inherit Ted's money and estate until he marries. Carson quickly gets married to Rachel, and inherits. Carson and Rachel decide to kill the two other women and keep all the money for themselves. However, Rachel, along with Brandi and Linda, are also plotting to kill Carson so that Rachel can inherit as a grieving widow and split the money three ways. Rachel does murder Carson and inherits his money. Rather than split the money, Rachel plots to murder Brandi, as well as Linda, to keep all of the inheritance money for herself. Brandi, anticipating that Rachel might do just that, plots a scheme of her own to kill Rachel. However, Linda has an agenda of her own to steal the money for herself, along with her shadowy partner-in-crime who is the mastermind behind everything.

Caramel revolves around the intersecting lives of five Lebanese women. The film does not refer to any of the political problems or recent warfare that has troubled Lebanon. Rather, Labaki's tale paints everyday people with everyday problems.
