Siva (Telugu: శివ) is a 1989 Telugu action film based on student politics in Mafia backdrop, written and directed by Ram Gopal Varma in his debut. The film was produced by Akkineni Venkat, starring Akkineni Nagarjuna, Amala Akkineni, and Raghuvaran in lead roles, with soundtrack composed by Ilaiyaraaja. The film was premiered at the 13th International Film Festival of India on January 19, 1990 at the Empire Theater in Kolkata. Upon release, the film received very positive reviews and remained a cult classic blockbuster.

The film has garnered state Nandi Awards for Best direction, Best First Film of a director and Best dialogue writer. The film has also garnered the Filmfare Award for Best Film – Telugu. The film is listed among CNN-IBN's 100 greatest Indian films of all time. The film's original soundtrack was composed by Ilaiyaraaja, which remained a chartbuster.
The film was also dubbed into Tamil as Udhayam. The college campus depicted was shot at Keys High School, in Secunderabad. In 1990, The film was completely remade in Hindi as Shiva, with few changes in the climax of the film. The Hindi version became an instant hit at the box office. The Telugu version is now available in a 2014 digitally restored and remastered format for home video, marking the film's Silver Jubilee.

Mumbai is in the midst of a turf war between two gangs, collectively referred to as the Mumbai underworld when Satya (J.D Chakravarthy), a man without a past, comes to the city looking for employment. The plot starts with a man returning home late night. He passes through the graveyard; on the way to home and he finds a ghost mistaken for a woman and follows her. He is killed by a group of ghosts. Scene moves to a happily living couple Murali and Sindhu (Jayasudha), who lives with their 3 years old son Chinni (Master Ravi Chandra Padmala) and Sindhu's sister Mahi (Maheswari). They plan to buy an estranged new farm house, which is near to graveyard. Sindhu's sister Mahi (Maheswari) always roams with her boyfriend Narsing (J. D. Chakravarthy). The problem comes when Sindhu's son starts making imaginary friends in their new home. It is later revealed that his "imaginary friends" are ghosts. Sequence of events happens showing the essence of ghosts in the house. Things become much worsen when Chinni will become prey to the ghosts. Sindhu sees the ghost of Chinni and feels that he is still alive. In the meantime, Narsing once while waiting for Mahi in the night near the graveyard road, mistakes Ghost to mahi. However, he survives from there. Later he comes to know from his friends that a builder built the farm house on the land of graveyard. Narsing understands that Mahi's family is in big trouble. He warns Mahi to move away from that house immediately. But Mahi being from an atheist family doesn't cares about his words. The ghosts continues to kill the family members one after the another. At last, Mahi and Narsing tries to escape from the ghosts but when they return home, they find that all the protagonists became ghosts . The final scene shows Mahi and Narsing are about to be surrounded by ghosts and left with no way to escape.
