Shola Aur Shabnam (English: Fire and Dew) is a 1961 Bollywood romance film written and directed by Ramesh Saigal. It stars Dharmendra, Tarla Mehta, Abhi Bhattacharya, Vijayalakshmi and M. Rajan in pivotal roles. It was one of the very early films of Dharmendra. The film is about a young man torn between love for his long lost childhood sweetheart, and devotion towards a friend who has helped set him up in his career. The film features music by Khayyam. The original soundtrack contains some of the most famous songs, like "Jane Kya Dhoondti Rahti" etc.

Synopsis

Ravi or "Bunnu" (Akashdeep) as he's called at home and Sandhya (Chandrakala) are childhood sweethearts despite Ravi being poor, and Sandhya being rich. Sandhya's father who is a senior official in the Railways is posted to a distant location, Ravi and Sandhya are separated and out of contact.

Young Vijay lives in an orphanage after being separated from his widowed mother, Laxmi. Years later Vijay has grown up and a wealthy man, Kailashnath Gupta, identifies him as his long-lost son and takes him home. Ajit Singh (Dharmendra), an illiterate truck driver learns from his dying adoptive mother, that he is the only surviving son of an honest cop who was killed and his entire family obliterated by the dreaded dacoit Bharat Thakur (Ajit) and swears revenge. On his way to Dinapur, the dacoit's hideout he meets a grievously injured cop Inspector D'souza (Satyen Kappu) who dies protecting his stash of ammunitions from local dacoits.Inspector D'souza was en route to the village of Dinapur to set up a Police station with his men and the ammo and he leaves the weapons at Ajit Singh's disposal before succumbing to his wounds.Ajit Singh uses this new found stash of machine guns and grenades to pose as a cop and sets up a police station in the aforementioned village with the help of the villagers.His love interest is the feisty and pretty village belle Radha (Hema Malini),who is the niece of dreaded dacoit Bharat Thakur but hates his ways and supports Ajit Singh. Bharat Thakur himself is a cunning man and he sets up his man, the village drunkard Chandi (Keshto Mukherjee) as a spy within the village police station nexus. The rest of the film follows the struggle between Ajit Singh and Bharat and how he goes about taking his revenge and thus fulfilling his Pratigya (Promise).

Amar Doraiswamy is the only child of multi-millionaire shoemaker, who lives in a palatial house in Goa, India, along with his wife. Amar introduces a close, but poor friend, Ram, to his father, who employs him conditionally. Amar falls in love with a woman named Sushma Rai, and asks Ram to pen a love letter and poem for her. Sushma gets to read the letter and the poem, and thinking that Ram is Amar, falls in love with him. She meets him, and he is also unknowingly attracted to her, both feel that they are inseparable soul-mates. Then Ram gets a shock when he finds out that Sushma is Amar's intended and decides to stay away from her. But Sushma has other plans, for she intends to marry Ram at any cost, not realizing that by doing this, she is placing not only Ram's life, but also the lives of two other individuals, namely Uma Devi and Lalit, in jeopardy.
