Synopsis
In New York City, an unemployed young man finds a job in a shooting gallery as a living target. After a while, the man falls in love and lives in the gallery with his wife at gunpoint. Finally, they give birth to baby, and the shooting range owner wants to use it as another target, too. Disgusted, the family flies off, but there's a lot of other unemployed people to fill their position.Comments

A painter leaves the town and walks around countryside. While he is resting on the grass, humming the melody of Speak Softly Love, a large spaceship lands near him. An alien exits the spaceship, photographs the environment and tries to contact the painter by changing his appearance to resemble nearby animals and objects and by touching him. The painter is frightened and tries to run away, but becomes tired, falls from a cliff and lies on the ground, imagining that the alien is going to lock him in a cage and torture him. The alien approaches the painter and tries to hum the same melody that the painter hummed earlier, but makes some mistakes. The painter understands that the alien is friendly, teaches him the correct melody, and they walk away together hand in hand.

Dissatisfied with a torn shirt button, an artist redraws a self-portrait with the button in place. He then goes on and changes the portrait into a young man in an expensive suit against the backdrop of a new car and a country house. Wanting to show off the result, he shows the portrait to his girlfriend. The painted handsome man comes to life and begins to aggressively flirt with the girl. The confused artist has great difficulty dealing with his opponent.

The film focuses on a man who visits a mystical, organic building that looks like a medieval cathedral. As he walks through the immense structure, the light from his torch falls upon the pillars, revealing human faces. The viewer later realizes that the faces are still alive, as several smile and open their eyes as the man walks past them. The building's nature is partially unveiled at sunrise as the blinding light enchants the visitor and causes organic branch-like structures to burst from his chest. These protrusions then become another set of pillars in the building.

In the small town of Dukesberry, New Hampshire, Davey Stone, a 33-year-old alcoholic troublemaker with a long criminal record, whose antics have long earned him the animosity of the town, is arrested for walking out on his bill at Mr. Chang's Chinese restaurant and, while attempting to evade arrest ("Davey's Song"), destroying a giant Menorah/Santa ice sculpture.
