Somebody Up There Likes Me is a 1996 Hong Kong action romance film directed by Patrick Leung and starring Aaron Kwok, Carmen Lee and Sammo Hung.

Synopsis

With encouragement from his girlfriend, Gloria (Carmen Lee), Ken Wong (Aaron Kwok), a rebellious and stubborn youth, decides to focus on the sport of boxing. During a match, Ken accidentally kills Gloria's older brother, Rocky (Michael Tong), and the two break up. Ken is unwilling to give up his boxing career and seeks tuition from boxing master, Black Jack Hung (Sammo Hung). He also manages to reconcile with Gloria, who supports Ken returning to the ring to complete her brother's wish to challenge Yamada Motokazu (Sawada Kenya), the boxing champion of Asia. Due to constantly suffering blows to his head, Ken's is physically traumatized and once able to defeat Yamada, he also collapses.

Husker, is sent to the Shaolin Temple by the Iron Fisted Monk (Chen Sing), after he saves Sammo from a beating by the Manchu's. After being trained by his master (James Tien) he runs away from the temple, only to be confronted by his master and forced to take the four tests. Whilst this is happening, Fung Hark-On is indulging in his passion for raping women, and is virtually above the law as he is a powerful Manchu officer. He begins by raping Liang's (Chu Ching) sister, who then commits suicide and makes Liang a very angry man. Liang takes his revenge by killing one of those pesky Manchus but everyone thinks Sammo is responsible.

It is 1934, in Japanese occupied Korea. Angela, Carter and Sammo are sitting and talking in a park when they are approached by a group of Japanese toughs. Angela, Carter and Sammo don’t want any trouble as it goes against the wishes of their master and his teachings. It’s Sammo who finally loses it after being insulted by some Japanese. This doesn’t go down well and Sammo becomes a wanted man, having to hide out while Angela and Carter try to reason with The Black Bear Gang without much luck. Finally the Japanese go too far and Angela, Carter and Sammo are forced to fight back with devastating results for the Japanese.

Chan survives too, but has a piece of glass stuck in the back of his head. When the glass is removed, the doctor notices a tumour in Chan's brain and informs him that he does not have long to live. Chan becomes even more determined to bring down Wong Po, using any means necessary.
