Synopsis
Ashade (Abdel Kechiche), a New York City taxicab driver from Syria encounters a strange fare in Phoebe, played by Robin Wright Penn. The lead character, bitter from a recent divorce, forces friendship upon Ashade who accepts it very reluctantly. When she learns of Ashade's family's legal problems, she imposes upon him further. This imposition reveals a dangerous side to Phoebe, causing Ashade to flee their brief friendship. Phoebe retaliates in spite, turning Ashade's life upside-down. In order to put his life back in order, Ashade must seek out Phoebe and enlist her help, and in doing so, he learns about and falls prey to her dark secret.Actors

One night, a thief fleeing through Georgetown in Washington, D.C., is shot by a man carrying a briefcase. A pizza delivery man who witnesses the incident is also shot by the killer and is left in a coma. The following morning, a young woman is killed by a Washington Metro train in what seems to be suicide. Congressman Stephen Collins (Ben Affleck) is distraught to hear that the woman was Sonia Baker (Maria Thayer), a lead researcher on his staff. Collins, who has military experience, is leading an investigation into PointCorp, a private defense contractor with controversial operations involving mercenaries. Collins tells his former college roommate and old friend Cal McAffrey (Russell Crowe), an investigative reporter, that he had been having an affair with Sonia and that she had sent him a cheerful video message on the morning of her death, which he says is inconsistent and unusual behavior for someone about to commit suicide.

The film opens with a sexually charged, flirtatious online chat between two people with the screen names Thonggrrrl14 and Lensman319. Lensman319 is a photographer who admits to "fantasizing" about Thonggrrrl14. Thonggrrrl14 entices Lensman319 to meet at a café to "hook up". At the café, Thonggrrrl14 – Hayley Stark – meets Lensman319 – Jeff Kohlver. Hayley makes several references to her age (14 years old), yet succeeds in convincing Jeff to take her to his house. After showing her around, Hayley makes them both screwdrivers and asks him to take photographs. Before he can, Jeff gets dizzy, his vision blurs, and he falls to the floor unconscious.

Officer Dave Brown (Harrelson) has two ex-wives who are sisters (Anne Heche and Cynthia Nixon), and he cheated on both. Brown has a daughter from each marriage which creates conflict at home. Dave also has contentious relationships with his children. However, the film starts with his other home, which is the beat. Dave patrols streets occupied by gangs, and he creates problems for himself with increasing severity. Dave forcibly obtains a confession out of a convenience store thief. Later he is caught on tape beating someone almost to death. The beating is still playing on television when he's involved in a suspicious shooting. These incidents get Dave in trouble with an already beleaguered police department, and he faces either sanctions or forced retirement. Dave tries to talk his way out of trouble with an assistant district attorney (Sigourney Weaver). Dave realizes that his superiors are less concerned about what he has done but more concerned about the predicament he has created by getting caught.
