Pitamber Kohli lives an upper middle class existence with his wife, & two brothers, Yeshwant and Pratap. The trio get in the bad books of an underworld don named Swami, who soon they launches a vendetta against them. As a result, Pitamber is killed, and both Yeshwant and Pratap swear to avenge his death. Pratap joins the police force, and steps up his efforts to nab Swami at any cost, to no avail, and he ends up getting suspended from his duties. Then Swami makes his move - Pratap's sister and brother-in-law are abducted and held at gunpoint. When Yeshwant goes to rescue them, he is gunned down. Now Pratap, the only remaining Kohli brother, is the only target of Swami.

Searching for work, Ram Kumar Singh (Jeetendra), comes to Bombay. But on arrival, his wallet and other belongings are stolen. He takes shelter in a taxi belonging to Rahim Khan (Dharmendra), who takes him home, provides him food-shelter as well as a taxi so that he can earn money. Rahim and Ram become close friends. One day Ram meets Reshma (Madhuri Dixit), who studies in Mithibai College and both fall in love with each other. Ram gets job and he quits his taxi driving. Sultan (Sunny Deol) is the only son of Razoulli Al-Jabber Al-Nasser (Amrish Puri) and lives a comfortable life. Sultan has been taught all the skills needed for a warrior to defend himself and his tribe. Sultan falls for Shehzadi Yasmeen (Sridevi), is captured by her troops, tortured, made to enter a death race. He escapes from it and abducts Yasmeen. Eventually Yasmeen and Sultan fall in love with each other. Razoulli is killed by General Khalid and his wife loses her senses. Sultan swears to avenge his father's death, and finds out that the person responsible is General Khalid (Dharmendra). Sultan learns that Khalid's son, Samir (Karan Kapoor), and his fiancée, Zarina (Juhi Chawla), are to arrive, and he decides to abduct them, though in vain. Khalid comes to know about this and decides to kill Sultan. What Khalid does not know is Sultan is none other than his son, who was abducted at a young age and left with Razoulli. But now it seems that the duel between father and son will only end when one is killed by the other.

Ajay Sharma (Dharmendra), is a Police Inspector of notable wealth. He is happily married to Asha (Rekha) with two children. Many a times he goes out of his work area to destructively capture dangerous criminals and inadvertently falls under disciplinary warning with his concerned superiors. Past its grand opening, Ajay and his friend Albert (Jalal Agha) visit the casino and fall under a confrontation with the gamekeeper and management when they are cheated during the game. During the fight, Albert is killed and Ajay is seriously wounded.
