The film was planned by Giridharilal Nagpal and brought together 14 major directors, 19 cinematographers and over thirty leading actors in the Tamil film industry.
The film also holds the Guinness World Record for casting the most stars in a film and also for being the quickest ever feature-length film made, with filming being completed in 23 hours and 59 minutes. The film released on July 16, 1999, to positive reviews from critics, praising the intentions of the makers.
Synopsis
Kuselan (Vijayakumar) and Suseela (Manjula) have 9 children: 3 boys (Sathyaraj, Prabhu Ganesan and Abbas) and 6 girls (Rambha, Roja, Kasthuri, Maheswari, Preetha Vijaykumar and Suvalakshmi). R. Parthiban is the family's loyal servant but he is treated as one of their own, while Napoleon is the family doctor.Actors

Vijayakumar is the head of the village (Oor Gounder) with his wife Manjula and his daughter Srija. He is a person of who strictly adheres to the caste. Sarathkumar is also in the same village. The father of both Vijayakumar and Sarathkumar are one but Sarathkumar's mother is from a lower caste. So Vijayakumar always ignores Sarathkumar. Anandbabu who is relative of Sarathkumar comes to meet him in the village and falls in love with Srija. Vijayakumar comes to know about this and he makes arrangements for Srija's marriage with K.S.Ravikumar, son of Nagesh. At the end Vijayakumar becomes a good person with the advice of Manjula and a happy end of Anandbabu marrying Srija.

The film starts with Gouthami visiting a village and remembering the past as the film takes us to a flashback. The village would have been a victim to a local don by name Baasha whose atrocities go unchecked even by police. Most of the policemen would either accept bribe or get killed by him. Sathyaraj family relocates to this village. He questions the riots happening in the village and develops enmity with the don. How he saves the village from the ruling don and his boss forms the rest of the story. In the end, Sathyaraj kills Sarathkumar and dies while hosting a flag.

A rich estate owner is killed by his second wife and her brother Aadimoolam (Radharavi). The estate owner's son Raja (Rajinikanth) returns from USA and learns of this. In order to bring the culprits to book, he makes his friend Sethupati (Janakraj), a rickshaw puller, act as Raja. But soon, Aadimoolam learns of this and kills Sethu and frames Raja as the killer. Raja is sentenced to death. In between this Raja loves Senkamalam (Radha),sister of an employee in his estate. in the same village where Raja lives, there exists his lookalike, Chinnaraasu (Rajinikanth again), whose aim in life is to wed his sweetheart Lakshmi (Nadia). Raja escapes from jail and meets Chinnaraasu and makes Chinnaraasu take his place in jail. After many a twist and turns, Raja brings the culprits to book. At the end Raja marries Senkamalam and Chinnarasu marries Lakshimi.
