Synopsis
Michel Mortez (Jean Rochefort), animateur radio, sillonne la France avec Rivetot (Gérard Jugnot), pour animer depuis plus de 25 ans le jeu quotidien La Langue au chat. Rivetot apprend, alors qu'il téléphone à ses collègues, que l'émission va être supprimée. Par amitié et affection pour Mortez il décide de le lui cacher, détournant les lettres et coups de téléphone, jusqu'à simuler une émission qui n'est en réalité pas diffusée.Actors

Milan (Hallyday) arrives in a small town by train at the start of the week. The hotel is closed, but he finds accommodation via a chance meeting with a retired French teacher, Manesquier (Rochefort). The film tells the story of the developing relationship between these apparent opposites, though looming in the background are two unavoidable events that each is expecting to take place on the Saturday - Manesquier is to undergo a major operation, and Milan (though he keeps this secret at first) is to lead a bank robbery. Manesquier soon realises Milan's intentions, but this does not prevent a growing mutual respect, with each envying the other's lifestyle.

The characters from the first two films get together again, 27 years on, in Sardinia. Guy (Michel Blanc) travaille comme pompiste dans une station service. Son copain Daniel (Bernard Giraudeau) est déménageur dans une petite entreprise. Guy se fait renvoyer de son travail parce que son patron apprend qu'il arnaque les clients en facturant des prestations non effectuées. The plot centres around knifethrower Gabor (Auteuil) and a girl called Adèle (Paradis), who intends to kill herself by jumping from a bridge. Gabor intervenes to prevent the suicide and persuades Adèle to become the target girl in his knifethrowing act. The film then follows their relationship as they travel around Europe with the act. Their companionship and teamwork mean great luck for both of them. Then they get separated and their lives once again become luckless. The film ends on a bridge in Istanbul, this time with her saving him from suicide.

Alors qu'il lui reste un an de détention à tirer, Stéphane Carella, casseur notoire, doit être transféré dans une autre prison dans un fourgon de gendarmerie dont le trajet passe dans les gorges du Verdon. Mais les gendarmes viennent en aide à des collègues, dont le véhicule vient d'avoir un léger accident, les obligeant à menotter Carella avec un certain Paul Brandon, individu apparemment violent et dangereux. C'est alors que Brandon neutralise un gendarme et s'évade en compagnie de Carella, avec lequel il est toujours menotté. Après avoir escaladé des falaises et plongé dans un torrent pour échapper à leurs poursuivants, les deux hommes réussissent à échapper aux policiers et trouvent refuge dans une maison isolée où vit Laura. La jeune femme, employée dans un parc d'attractions, les aide volontiers, car son mari a été tué un an auparavant par les forces de l'ordre. Cette dernière tombe sous le charme des deux hommes.

The film begins in 1783 with the Chevalier de Milletail (Carlo Brandt) visiting the elderly Monsieur de Blayac (Lucien Pascal), confined to his chair. The film begins in a flashback from the titular character, Antoine. We are introduced to his fixation with female hairdressers which began at a young age. The film uses flashbacks throughout and there are frequent parallels drawn with the past. Though Antoine tells Mathilde that 'the past is dead', his life is evidence that on some level the past repeats itself. As a young boy he fantasised about a hairdresser who committed suicide and as a man in his 50s he begins an affair with a hairdresser which ends after ten years in her suicide. However there are differences, Mathilde commits suicide because she is so happy she is afraid of the happiness she has found with Antoine ending.
