Ten9Eight: Shoot for the Moon is a 2009 documentary film written, directed, and produced by Mary Mazzio about inner NYC teens that compete in an annual business plan competition run by the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE).

Synopsis

Mary Mazzio's Ten9Eight: Shoot for the Moon, is about teenagers competing in a nationwide business contest. It follows the stories of several inner city teens (of differing race, religion, and ethnicity) as they compete in the annual business plan competition run by the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE). The teens come from all over the country and are among the 24,000 students that compete in the event each year, with the winner taking home a $10,000 grand prize.

The film is a historical and critical look at slasher films, which includes dozens of clips, beginning with Halloween, Friday the 13th, and Prom Night. The films' directors, writers, producers, and special effects creators comment on the films' making and success. During the Ronald Reagan years, the films get gorier, budgets get smaller, and their appeal diminishes. Then, A Nightmare on Elm Street revives the genre. Jumping to the late 1990s, when Scream brings humor and TV stars into the mix. Although some criticize the genre as misogynistic, most of the talking heads celebrate the films: as long as there are teenagers, there will be slasher films.
