Adaline Bowman (Blake Lively) is seen purchasing fake IDs at an apartment in San Francisco. Later that day, at work, she opens a film reel and the narrator explains her life, including her death in a car accident when she swerved into a ravine and died in the frigid water. A lightning strike revived her. As her daughter Flemming (Ellen Burstyn) grows older, it becomes apparent that Adaline is not aging. One day she is pulled over by a police officer, who takes away her ID as it says she is in her mid-40s.
