The Bell Boy is a short film produced and released in 1918 by the Comique film company.
The film stars Fatty Arbuckle and Buster Keaton as bellboys in Elk's Head Hotel. They cause trouble with each other and guests. The elevator is powered by a stubborn horse, a sham robbery turns into a real one, and there is a chase on a runaway trolley. Much of the material in this film was later re-used by Keaton in his 1937 film "Love Nest On Wheels". One sequence involving a mop was reused by Keaton in his last film appearance, in The Scribe.
Synopsis
Fatty et Buster sont les deux grooms de l’Elk’s Head Hôtel. Après maintes roublardises, Fatty s'attire les faveurs de la belle Cutie Cuticle. Afin de lui prouver son courage et ainsi conquérir pleinement son cœur, Fatty propose à ses deux comparses de simuler un cambriolage dans la banque afin d'agir héroïquement en les arrêtant. The story involves Arbuckle coming to the western town of Mad Dog Gulch (which the intertitles call "the toughest town in the movies") after being thrown off a train and chased by Indians. He teams up with gambler/saloon owner Bill Bullhorn (Keaton), in trying to keep the evil Wild Bill Hickup (Al St. John) away from Salvation Army girl, Salvation Sue (Alice Lake). Fatty and Buster have a series of adventures trying to beat St. John, until they discover his one weakness: his ticklishness.

Fatty est le chef-cuisinier d'un restaurant dont Buster Keaton est le serveur. Un grand classique de situation dans les comédies burlesques et l'occasion pour Roscoe de montrer sa dextérité à jongler avec les plats et les couteaux et reprend des gags de Fatty boucher ou Fatty chez lui. Une longue scène du film est une parodie de la danse de Salomé. L'irruption du truand Al St John venu faire la caisse est le prétexte à une bagarre et Luke finira par y mettre bon ordre. Ces deux personnages sont les protagonistes d'une course-poursuite qui se déroule en parallèle de la comédie elle-même pour la rejoindre au moment du dénouement. On retrouve nos personnages lors d'un repas pris à l'office à la fin du service et le film se termine par le repos de l'après-midi que Fatty consacre à la pêche non loin d'un parc d'attraction où se trouvent Alice Lake et Buster Keaton. La fin du film est difficile à suivre car le film est fragmenté et incomplet.

As described in Exhibitors Herald, a film magazine, Dr. Fatty Holepoke (Arbuckle) bets all of his money on a horse and looses it. He becomes entangled in the meshes of a vampire (Mann), but when he hears the voice of "his master" (his wife), he finds himself in a serious predicament.
