It was first released in the United States as The Big Risk. It tells the story of Abel Davos (Ventura), a French mobster who tries to make his way from Italy through Marseille to Paris, hunted by the police, and Eric Stark (Belmondo), who turns out to be the only person willing to help Davos. The film is an adaptation of the novel with the same title by José Giovanni.
Now widely considered a masterpiece, at the time of its release it was somewhat overshadowed by the French New Wave. It did however influence the French cinema, especially Jean-Pierre Melville's work.
Synopsis
The French gangster Abel Davos is on the run from the police. He has been tried in absentia and sentenced to death. He flees to Italy together with his wife Thérèse and their two children. He performs a successful holdup in Milano with his accomplice Raymond, but chased by the police the two decide to return to France. Entering France on a seemingly deserted beach, the small group is surprised by two customs officers and end up in a gunfight, where Thérèse and Raymond are killed. Left alone with the children, Abel calls his friends Riton and Fargier in Paris to come and pick him up in Nice. Unable to travel to Nice, they send a man named Éric Stark, who works as an ambulance driver. Éric lets Abel hide in his attic and the two men become friends.Actors

Made in 1992, Un Coeur En Hiver was French writer/director Claude Sautet's first feature film in four years. Daniel Auteuil plays lonely violin restorer Stephane, who is commissioned to produce an instrument for concert violinist Camille, who is the girlfriend of his married partner Maxime. Camille falls in love with Stephane, and leaves Maxime for him, only to find that he does not seem to return her feelings. The two men fight over her, but Camille eventually regains her composure.

A criminal organisation assigns French gangster Henri Ferré to optimise the operations of an existing narcotics ring in Paris. The bar „Le Troquet“ serves as a front for these activities. In Santo Domingo the experienced seaman Jacques Cournot is asked for advice by a certain Mr Hendrix who wishes to purchase a sailing boat. Cournot recommends to buy the ship in question. The entire film takes place over the course of three days. Pépé le Moko, a criminal on the run from the police in metropolitan France, lives in the Casbah quarter of Algiers, where he is out of reach of the local police. Inspector Slimane seeks a way to lure Pépé out of his refuge. He sees his chance when he learns that Pépé is in love with Gaby, the mistress of a rich businessman. Slimane leads Gaby to believe that Pépé had been killed. Gaby, who was on the point of joining him in his hiding place, now agrees to stay with her rich lover.
