Le Casse (US title: The Burglars) is a 1971 movie directed by French director Henri Verneuil, starring Jean-Paul Belmondo, Omar Sharif, Dyan Cannon and Robert Hossein. It is based on the 1953 novel by David Goodis and revolves around a team of four burglars chased by a corrupt cop in Athens. It's a remake of the 1957 film The Burglar with Jayne Mansfield.
The movie is known for its spectacular car chase and Belmondo's incredible fall from a construction truck down a steep, rocky hillside. The movie was shot twice, once in French and once in English, by the same cast.
Synopsis
Azad (Jean-Paul Belmondo), Ralf (Robert Hossein) and 2 other accomplices rob a suitcase of emeralds from a rich Greek citizen, M.Tasco. When Abel Zacharia (Omar Sharif), the Athenian police chief, surprises Azad's car in front of Tasco's house on the night of the robbery, he decides to let Azad and his team go, hoping he could retrieve the emeralds for himself. Follows a chase between Azad and the corrupt cop through Athens' streets which culminates to the final scene which will be later borrowed by Witness in 1985.Actors

After François Leclercq seduces the young and rich Gilberte Beaumont-Liégard, she introduces him to her family. Through the budding relationship with her in-laws, Leclercq is able to assimilate into the local upper class of his hometown, Cornai. A friend of Gilberte's father, Raphaël Di Massa hires him as manager of his new nightclub, "Number One". The oblivious parvenu Leclercq eventually discovers that "Number One" is actually a cover-up for Raphaël Di Massa's illegal drug trade. Following a dispute between Di Massa and Leclercq, the gun of the latter is stolen and used in the murder of a local football star. An orchestrated miscarriage of justice puts Leclercq in prison, despite his innocence. Seven years later, he returns to Cornai and discovers that it wasn't Di Massa, but Gilberte's father Jean-Baptiste Beaumont-Liégard who ran the drug operation during Leclercq's employment. In an act of retaliation, Leclercq turns Beaumont-Liégard's accomplices against him. As Jean-Baptiste Beaumont-Liégard is executed, Leclercq leaves the city satisfied with his revenge.

The film's plot is based on the Kennedy assassination and subsequent investigation. The film begins with the assassination of President Marc Jarry, who is about to be inaugurated for a second six-year term of office. Henri Volney, state attorney and member of the commission charged with investigating the assassination (based on the Warren Commission) refuses to agree to the commission's final findings. Routier, Jean Viard ne trouve aucune compréhension auprès de sa famille avec laquelle il ne s'entend guère. De multiples contretemps vont empêcher Jean et Clotilde de former un couple durable. Jean perd momentanément son emploi. Clotilde, enceinte, n'osera lui avouer son état et se fera avorter. Elle meurt dans l'ambulance qui l'a prise en charge trop tard, d'une septicémie consécutive à l'avortement réalisé dans la clandestinité quelques jours plus tôt, alors qu'ils avaient enfin décidé de se retrouver et partir refaire leur vie ensemble.

Sur une route de Provence, Francis conduit une Jeep qu'il doit livrer à Grenoble. En chemin, il fait la connaissance de Samuel, un routard habile joueur de cartes. Poursuivant sa route, Francis fait étape à Draguignan pour faire réparer la Jeep, prend pension dans un hôtel d'un village voisin et noue une idylle avec Anna, la jeune veuve hôtelière. Francis rencontre de nouveau Samuel qui devient également l'hôte d’Anna. Samuel est surpris en train de tricher lors d'une partie de cartes dans un bistrot et ses partenaires le laissent évanoui avec les doigts brisés devant la porte d'Anna. Après que celle-ci eut repoussé ses avances, Samuel s'en va errant dans la campagne et étrangle une vieille femme qui se moquait de ses mains à présent incapables de manier les cartes. Il s'enfuit, poursuivi par les villageois qui veulent faire justice eux-mêmes. Francis se lance également à sa poursuite.
