The Dream Catcher is a 1999 independent drama film, directed by Edward Radtke. It is a road movie, telling the story of two boys on the road.

Synopsis

Freddy (Maurice Compte), un jeune "routard" ténébreux, part pour Oklahoma City retrouver son père qu'il n'a pas vu depuis son enfance. Il fait la rencontre, dans une station service, d'Albert (Pady Connor), un adolescent qui désire rejoindre sa vraie mère, qu'il n'a jamais connue, à Reno. Ce dernier se moque avec des gestes obscènes d'un automobiliste qui vient faire le plein.Ils n'ont rien en commun : l'aîné est taciturne, toujours sur le qui-vive, hanté par l'idée d'une paternité trop précoce, tandis que l'autre est un joyeux lutin qui ne tient pas en place. Et pourtant, ils vont désormais faire la route ensemble, entre auto-stop et trains de marchandises, et monter quelques coups qui pourraient bien mal tourner pour l'un d'eux.

Paul is a womanizer in his early twenties who lives in a small Southern town, where he earns a living fixing cars for his uncle. Paul still lives with his mother, Elvira, who works as a clown cheering up children at the local hospital. He spends most of his time hanging out with his best friend and self-proclaimed partner-in-crime, Tip, and their friends Bo and Bust-Ass. Among his friends, Paul has a reputation as a ladies' man, but he's not at all known for being involved with long-term relationships; most of Paul's romances last only a few weeks, and he's slept with nearly every girl in town. Paul is beginning to reach a point where he would like to lead a different life, and that feeling becomes all the more clear when he meets Noel, Tip's teenage sister who has come back home after attending a boarding school. Noel is more thoughtful and mature than the girls Paul is used to. Paul and Noel soon fall in love, but for Paul this is a different sort of relationship than he's accustomed to — Noel is still a virgin, and her contemplative nature gives him a desire to be a better, stronger person, but Tip does not approve of Paul dating his younger sister, which leads to a rift between these longtime friends.

Meng Hu (Don Wong) and Capt. Chow Lung (Lo Lieh) are local supercops who are cracking down on crime with a vengeance. That is, until several fighters get the drop on Chow who ends up dead. Meng blames himself and retires from crime fighting to become a pathetic drunk, drowning in shame. He finds work at a brothel for a time, until a patron's abuse of one of the girls causes him to interfere despite his refusal to fight. After being wounded, he stumbles to the doorstep of a martial arts school run by Magistrate Chen (Chui Chung Hei). Hoping to stay away from conflict, Meng finds work there, but trouble finds him anyway. A white-haired master named Chung Tung (Chang Yi) tries to bribe Chen into letting opium smugglers into the city. Chen refuses and has acupuncture needles thrust into him that will kill him unless removed by Chung Tung who hopes to control the magistrate. Pushed to the limit, Meng finally comes up with a plan to help beat Chung Tung and save Chen. Sadly, Chen believes his son and daughter are giving into Chung Tung and he removes the needles himself. With nothing holding them back, Meng and Chen's offspring leap into action to take out this pack of drug pushers.
