The Great Gay Road is a 1920 British silent drama film directed by Norman MacDonald and starring Stewart Rome, Pauline Johnson and John Stuart. It was an adaptation of a 1910 novel The Great Gay Road by Tom Gallon which was later made as a sound film The Great Gay Road in 1931.

Jill arrives in London with a letter of introduction to Mr. Hamilton, proprietor of the Pleasure Garden Theatre. The letter and all her money are stolen from her handbag as she waits to see him. Patsy, a chorus girl at the Pleasure Garden, sees her difficulty and offers to take her to her own lodgings and to try to get her a job. Next morning Jill is successful in getting a part in the show. Her fiance, Hugh, arrives with a colleague called Levet. Levet and Patsy become very close while Jill is being pursued by a number of rich men, particularly a Prince Ivan. Hugh is sent to Africa by his company.

In the Lancashire mill town of Hindle, preparations are being made for the annual summer wakes week holiday. Fanny Hawthorn (Brody) is seen packing her suitcase in preparation for her trip to Blackpool with her friend Mary Hollins (Peggy Carlisle). Meanwhile Allan Jeffcote (Stuart), son of the owner of the mill in which Fanny works, and employed in the offices, has had his own holiday plans disrupted due to his fiancée having to cancel their arrangements at the last minute. After a final day's work, the factory hooter sounds and Fanny and Mary board the excursion train to Blackpool, while Allan and a friend decide to travel there by car.

Working-class girl Molly (Poulton) finds a necklace and hands it in to the police. Posing as a chauffeur, he applies to be the driver of Molly's first taxi. She agrees to employ him and the pair gradually become romantically involved.
