L'Épervier (English: The Sparrowhawk), is a French drama film from 1933, directed and written by Marcel L'Herbier, starring Charles Boyer and Jean Marais. The film was based on novel of Francis de Croisset. It is also known under the title "Les amoureux" (alternative title).

Synopsis

Georges de Dasetta, gentilhomme hongrois, triche au jeu avec la complicité de sa femme, la belle Marina. Celle-ci, écœurée de sa vie, devient la maîtresse d'un diplomate, René de Terrache et quitte son mari. Elle le retrouve un jour affaibli et malade et prise de pitié, lui revient.

Philippe Lutcher, an anarchist, fires a shot at Clara Stuart, a famous stage and screen actress, but only wounds her. The star, through affectation and curiosity to know his motives, pleads in his favour at his trial, but he rebuffs her pity. After he has served 18 months in prison, they meet and fall in love. Philippe however does not really believe in Clara's sincerity, and when he sees incidents from their lives becoming part of her latest film, he leaves her.
