Totò died two days after having filmed his first scene in the film; he was replaced by Ugo Tognazzi. Later Tognazzi was nominated at the Nastro d'Argento for Best supporting Actor.
Synopsis
En Italie, après la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, deux architectes, Marco et Paola font connaissance. Paola est séduite par les idées progressistes de Marco et y adhère. Ils se marient, mais les naissances successives de leurs quatre fils amènent Paola à quitter son travail pour les élever. Marco se sent délaissé, puis le temps qui passe use petit à petit sa ferveur sociale et il entame une liaison avec une collègue de travail. Les problèmes engendrés par l'éducation des enfants selon une nouvelle méthode provoquent l'hospitalisation de Paola pour dépression nerveuse. Marco se rend compte qu'il l'aime encore et revient à sa famille.Actors

The four Tuscan friends now have over sixty years of age and are nearing retirement. Count Mascetti is always the most unfortunate because in addition to end up in a wheelchair has also lost his wife in an incident. Roman surveyor Giuseppe Di Noi, who moved to Sweden for years, married to a Swedish woman and respected professional, decides to take on holiday in Italy his family. At the Italian border he is stopped and arrested without any explanation. After three days in jail in Milan, he learns - through the efforts of a guard - to have been charged with "manslaughter" of a German citizen.
