Synopsis
Il y a en ce moment une forte actualité sur la peine de mort, avec l'exécution de Troy Davis il y a quelques semaines aux Etats-Unis, et le sursis de quelques mois accordé peu de temps avant sa mort programmée pour Hank Skinner. Si l'Europe échappe pour le moment à cette barbarie d'un autre temps, les USA demeurent avec la Chine et l'Iran les pays tristement leaders pour l'exécution de condamnés, avec en tête du peloton le Texas.Actors

Nils (Stellan Skarsgård) is a snow plough driver somewhere in Norway. He learns that his son has died, supposedly of a heroin overdose. Nils knows his son was no addict and starts a private investigation. Soon he finds out the local drug gang is behind the crime. An Italian housewife of Abruzzo, Rosalba Barletta (Maglietta), finds herself stranded during a family vacation. Instead of waiting for her controlling businessman husband, she hitchhikes her way home, only to impulsively detour to Venice. She finds accommodations with a restaurant maître d', Fernando Girasole (Ganz), and soon finds herself enjoying her new life. After meeting and falling in love with Grazia, Rosalba's neighbor across the hall, Costantino calls Rosalba's husband and quits, claiming that he is unable to find her. However, her sister appears and convinces Rosalba to return to her home in Pescara. Fernando follows her and persuades her to return to Venice with him.

Heidi et sa tante se rendent dans un village des Alpes suisses dans le but d'obliger un vieil homme à garder Heidi auprès de lui, car il serait son grand-père. Le lendemain, le grand-père demande conseil au prêtre du village : devrait-il remettre Heidi à l'orphelinat ? Quelque temps après, Heidi rencontre Peter, un berger qui mène des chèvres aux alpages. Les deux, qui s'entendent bien, restent ensemble toute la journée. Après quelques jours de cohabitation, le vieil homme décide de garder Heidi auprès de lui car sa joie de vivre est contagieuse.
