It is based on the novel La Dame dans l'auto avec des lunettes et un fusil by Sébastien Japrisot. It is a remake of the 1970 film about a woman who is implicated in a crime she knows nothing about and must find out about to prove she is innocent.
Synopsis
Dany, jeune rousse flamboyante manquant de confiance en elle, est dactylographe dans une agence de publicité. Son directeur lui confie un jour un travail de rédaction pour le lendemain, où il doit se rendre en Suisse. Pour gagner du temps, il lui propose de le rédiger à son domicile. Au petit matin, le directeur demande à Dany de le conduire lui et sa famille à l'aéroport puis de ramener la voiture, une splendide Ford Thunderbird, à son domicile mais Dany décide, sur un coup de tête, d'aller voir la mer. La voici en route vers la Côte d'Azur, elle ne se doute alors pas qu'elle vient de mettre le pied dans un engrenage infernal.Actors

Michael Sullivan Sr. (Hanks) is an enforcer for Irish mob boss John Rooney (Newman) in Rock Island, Illinois during the Great Depression. Rooney raised the orphan Sullivan and loves him more than his own biological son, the unstable Connor (Craig). Connor snaps and kills disgruntled associate Finn McGovern when meeting him with Sullivan, resulting in Sullivan gunning down McGovern's men. Sullivan's twelve-year-old son Michael Sullivan, Jr had hidden in his father's car and witnesses the event. Despite Sullivan swearing his son to secrecy and Rooney pressuring Connor to apologize for the reckless action, Connor murders Sullivan's wife Annie and younger son Peter, mistaking him for Sullivan, Jr. He then sends Sullivan to an ambush at a speakeasy but Sullivan realizes and escapes to Chicago with his son to seek Al Capone, for work and to discover the location of Connor, who has gone into hiding.

Karen hitches a ride in Frank's car after hers breaks down. The violent Frank is travelling with his abused wife, on his way to sell stolen computer chips. Following a discussion, he suspects his wife is being unfaithful, leading to violence and a tragic series of events. Karen escapes, reaching a lab where a scientist has invented a time machine, and she returns by accident some minutes before the violent events. She tries to make things better, but instead makes things worse. Each time she goes back in time to interfere, she causes a worse outcome than before. Eventually Karen uses the machine to go back as far as it can take her and refuse Frank's offer of a ride in the first place. Without her interference, Frank is killed by his wife.
