L'Homme au pousse-pousse (無法松の一生, Muhōmatsu no isshō) est un film japonais réalisé par Hiroshi Inagaki, sorti en 1943.

Synopsis

Japon, 1905. Matsugoro est un pauvre conducteur de pousse-pousse. Sa vivacité d'esprit et son tempérament optimiste en font une personne appréciée des habitants de sa ville. Un jour, Matsu se porte au secours d'un garçon blessé, Toshio. Les parents, Kotaro et Yoshioko, louent ses services pour transporter le garçon chez le médecin et le ramener. Matsu se prend d'affection pour cette famille. Quand le père de Toshio meurt, Matsu devient comme un père de remplacement pour le garçon, qu'il contribue à élever. Il tombe secrètement amoureux de Yoshioko, mais est conscient qu'il y a un fossé de classe entre eux. Matsu pense qu'il ne sera jamais qu'un conducteur de pousse-pousse pour elle et son fils.

Following the battle of Sekigahara, Takezo (Toshiro Mifune) and his friend Matahachi (Rentarō Mikuni) find themselves on the losing side. Instead of the grand victory and glory Takezo had anticipated, he finds himself a hunted fugitive, having to assist a severely injured Matahachi. The pair seek shelter with a widow and her daughter who unknown to them are connected to local brigands. The brigands soon show up and ask for tribute from what the women have stripped off dead samurai, and Takezo has to fight them off. Both women attempt to seduce Takezo but are rejected. The widow then tells Matahachi that Takezo tried to assault her and convinces him to escort her and her daughter to Kyoto. Matahachi agrees even though he loves (and is betrothed to) Otsu (Kaoru Yachigusa), a woman from his village.

Le lendemain l'armée du clan Azai est défaite, Kagami Yakeiji est fait prisonnier mais parvient à tuer son geôlier et à s'enfuir. Sasa Hayatenosuke est quant à lui blessé au combat. Il est recueilli et soigné par Oryo, qui avec son père est à la tête d'une bande de pillards qui dépouille les soldats tués au combat.

Takezo (Musashi) abandons his life as a knight errant. He's sought as a teacher and vassal by Shogun, Japan's most powerful clan leader.
