Add to a movie listThe Little Engine that Could is a 1991 animated direct-to-video short film directed by Dave Edwards and co-produced by Edwards and Mike Young, animated at Kalato Animation in Wales and co-financed by Universal Studios through their MCA/Universal Home Video arm and S4C, Wales' dedicated Welsh-language channel. It was released on VHS by MCA. The film features the voice talents of Kath Soucie and Frank Welker. It is based on the book of the same name, by Watty Piper.
In Wales the film was joint-released in both English and Welsh, under the title Yr Injan Fach Fentrus (The Adventurous Little Engine) and was broadcast on television in both languages. As a native production it was widely available on VHS in Wales and thus achieved a degree of cult status during its time, though never touching on the level of other iconic characters such as Fireman Sam and Superted, both of which featured production staff members who worked on The Little Engine That Could.
Synopsis
Eric, a young boy, is excited about his birthday after reading a book and believes that a train will come for him, despite his teenage sister Jill's disbelief. A few hours later, the train station's control tower wakes up and in the roundhouse, Tillie, a young little blue switcher engine, along with her best bird friend, Chip, wakes up four other trains: Georgia, a kind all-purpose engine, Farnsworth, a stuck-up, shiny, new passenger engine, Jebediah, a worn-out, rusty, old engine, and Pete, a gruff, burly, big, strong freight engine. After the tower assigns Farnsworth and Pete their jobs, he declines Tillie's offer to help with the milk train assigned to Jebediah due to her small stature. Georgia is assigned to pull the birthday train. A clown named Rollo leads the toys into the train, including Jeepers, a monkey, Stretch, a basketball player, Missy, a ballerina, Handy Pandy, a panda, Perky, an elephant, and Grumpella, a stuffed bird.Actors

It is an adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol. An overexcited Roo, along with Pooh, Piglet, Tigger and Eeyore, pay Rabbit a fine visit to celebrate Easter. But instead of finding an Easter party, they find a Spring-Cleaning Day celebration led by Rabbit who makes up the holiday to replace Easter. While Rabbit tends his garden by doing things his way, the gang cleans up his house, and Pooh sneezes and trashes the house. Then Roo finds all their Easter eggs and decorations stored away in Rabbit's closet, and throws a surprise Easter party for Rabbit. Unfortunately, he is enraged at them for not doing his "Spring Cleaning Day", and not doing exactly what Rabbit repeatingly told them to do, and literally throws them out of his house for disobeying him. Then the gang began to have a feeling that Rabbit does not want to celebrate Easter at all, which makes Roo very sad that Rabbit is really unhappy, and Tigger wants Roo to have a happy Easter. So Tigger tries to talk to Rabbit while Roo and the others try to make an Easter celebration of their own in their hopes of cheering up Rabbit.

Pooh, Piglet and Tigger literally pop out of the Book of Pooh into Christopher Robin's room, but can't find Christopher there. Winnie the Pooh and his friends hear a strange noise and find a set of large, circular footprints in the Hundred Acre Wood. During the night, Tigger's house is damaged by what appears to be an earthquake. The friends believe that there is a heffalump in the woods. Rabbit organizes an expedition to go try to catch it. Roo wants to comes long, but the others tell him he is too young and small to go. Despite this, Roo slips out on his own in search of the heffalump. He finds one; a playful young creature named Heffridge Trumpler Brompet Heffalump IV - "Lumpy" for short. Roo is afraid of his captive at first, but the two quickly become friends and play.

Lena is a princess mermaid, sea king's daughter who dreams of someday marrying a wonderful human prince. After disobeying her father, Lena visits the sea surface (after being yanked by a whirlpool) and first sees the Prince Stephan, falling madly in love. Soon after, the ship that sails the Prince Stephan sinks and the youth's life in danger until Lena manages to save him and bring him to a beach near the school where he studied. Lena comes to the aid of the witch Cassandra and exchanges her voice for legs to walk on land and meet her prince. Cassandra gives Lena what she asks for with the warning that if Lena fails to win the heart of Stephan, she will become sea foam for the rest of her life. Lena drinks the potion, loses her voice, and goes to the surface. Above, she walks on shore naked (except for her shawl, flower necklace and the wreath of pearls her sister Tris gave her for her birthday). She is later helped at the palace by two doves, Cecil and Claudia. Things are going well, but Lena is dumb. Prince Stephan takes a fondness to her, as he feels he should show her the same kindness that the person who had saved him from the wreck showed him. Over time, Stephan falls in love with Lena and wants to marry her, but then comes Anna, the young princess who earlier found Stephan and Cosgrove on the beach and brought them to the medical care they needed. Stephan agrees to marry Anna, but Anna is in love with Maxwell. Vink, the dolphin pet friend of Lena, intervenes and tells the king of the sea what happened. His intervention fixes things, King Malcolm agrees to make Maxwell his son-in-law, and Lena finally marries Stephan, saving her life.

The Flintstones and the Rubbles go to Hollyrock to visit their children, Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm (who is trying his luck at being a screenwriter), after the former reveals that she and Bamm-Bamm are going to have a baby. During the visit, they drive Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm bananas by telling them what to do now that Pebbles is going to have a baby, even though they can take care of themselves. Meanwhile, Fred and Barney help Bamm-Bamm sell his script, but end up in a mess with a robbery of a giant pearl when it is mistaken for a bowling ball. Big Rock sends his henchmen Rocky and Slick to recover the giant pearl. Fred and Barney manage to get the tickets to a taping of a show at ABC studios in hopes to sell Bamm-Bamm's script. Fred and Barney encounter Shelley Millstone in hopes to have her for Bamm-Bamm's film. It doesn't go well and the security guard is called in to eject them. A chase begins throughout the ABC studios and they eventually get thrown out.

The Mystery Machine is driving through the Sonoran Desert. A sandstorm comes up and Shaggy Rogers makes a wrong turn onto government property. Seeing a UFO causes Shaggy to lose control of the vehicle and the gang find themselves on the outskirts of a small town. While Scooby-Doo and Shaggy stay with the van the rest of the gang enters a local diner to get directions. Shaggy and Scooby then see a mythical animal called a jackalope. The jackalope takes their last Scooby Snack and they chase it into a cave, where they encounter aliens. They run into the diner in panic, claiming to have seen aliens.

The Bedrock Community Players are mounting A Christmas Carol, and all of the town's citizens are either planning to attend or be involved in the production: Barney Rubble is playing Bob Cragit, with Betty as Mrs. Cragit and his son Bamm-Bamm as Tiny Tim; Mr. Slate is Jacob Marbley; Wilma Flintstone is serving as the stage manager, while her daughter Pebbles plays Martha Cragit; even Dino has a role, playing the Cragit's family pet. It is Fred, though, who has landed the leading role of Ebonezer Scrooge. Unfortunately, he has let his role go to his head, thinking himself a star and spending all of his time rehearsing his lines rather than focusing on his job or family.
