The Local Stigmatic is a film directed by David Wheeler and produced by and starring Al Pacino. It was filmed and edited during the late 1980s. It had a showing at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City in March 1990, but was never released theatrically. It was released on DVD as part of "The Al Pacino Box Set" in June 2007.
The film is 56 minutes long.

It follows the story of two British friends who spend their time walking about London discussing dog track racing.

The Local Stigmatic is based on a stage play by Heathcote Williams.

Harry Levine (Pacino) is a struggling writer (barely) ekeing out a living as a doorman — that is, until he is fired. Desperate for money, he pays a visit to his friend Jake Manheim (Orbach), an arts photographer, to collect an old debt. After Jake says he doesn't have the money, the two engage in an all-night conversation about their respective art, past and present loves, and the directions their lives are heading. The play and film are set in Greenwich Village circa 1982.

Giles est considéré comme un bon à rien par son père, le comte de Bateson, et il est d'ailleurs exclus de l'université pour avoir trop fait la fête. Quand Sally apprend que Giles et son père sont fâchés, elle fait le vœu de les réconcilier. Elle se rend chez le comte, le charme et devient pour lui une personne de confiance. Lorsqu'elle se blesse en essayant de cueillir des herbes pour soigner sa goutte, le comte lui rend visite. En route, il s'arrête à une auberge et donne une demi-couronne pour qu'on soigne son cheval. En fait c'est Giles qui reçoit cet argent, et l'ayant gagné honnêtement il est pardonné par son père et il se marie avec Sally en ayant la bénédiction du comte.
