Add to a movie listThe Lost Letter (Russian: Пропа́вшая гра́мота, Propavshaya gramota), or A Disappeared Diploma, is a 1945 Soviet animated film directed by the "grandmothers of the Russian animation", Brumberg sisters, and Lamis Bredis. It is the first Soviet cel-animated feature film. It was produced at the Soyuzmultfilm studio in Moscow and is based on the story with the same name by Nikolai Gogol. Authors of the movie managed to report an originality of national Ukrainian color and to recreate the magical, fantastic atmosphere peculiar to works of the writer. Also, for more reliable statement of dance of the Zaporozhets and the Cossack to Igor Moiseyev was involved.
Synopsis
Hot August, to the queen, with the hetman diploma send to the capital of the Cossack. On the road he strikes up acquaintance to the loose Zaporozhets. On a halt the new friend told that sold soul to a devil and waits for payment. At night the Cossack didn't become goes to bed, decided to look that will be farther. As darkened, to the place of a halt the devil came, took away the horse, and with her and the imperial diploma. On the first of September, Fedya Zaytsev is the very first kid who comes to school. In his joy at realizing this, he draws a little man with an umbrella on the wall of his classroom with a piece of charcoal, realizing too late that this is against the rules. In class, the teacher notices the drawing and asks everyone to raise their hands. Fedya rubs out his hands so that they are clean, but his friend, with whom he had shaken hands earlier, has dirty hands and is blamed. Fedya goes home without saying anything, but the little man whom he drew follows him, and he teams up with all of Fedya's toys and the heroes of his favourite books to teach him a lesson. At the end of the film, Fedya admits to his mistake.

The story starts with a golden jackal named Tabaqui walking towards his master, the dreaded tiger known as Shere Khan, who stretches himself, and then walks to the spot of a camp with Tabaqui guiding him. Out of cruelty and hatred, Shere Khan leaps towards the campsite. Whilst doing so, he accidentally burns his right forepaw, forcing a young child, Mowgli, to wander into a wolf cave in the jungle. At that point, Shere Khan (accompanied by his servant Tabaqui) appears at the entrance and demands that the wolves give him his prey, but the wolf mother Raksha refuses. He taunts them and says that the wolf pack will decide. Meanwhile, Tabaqui runs around the whole jungle and tells all the animals that a wolf pack has adopted a human.
