The Phone Call is a 24-minute film produced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It tells the story of a young man, Scott, who works at a burger joint to earn money for karate lessons. He finds it difficult to talk to the girl he likes while at the same time easily becomes friends with a female coworker, Becky. The story was based on an article by Jack Weyland published in the New Era in February 1976. The film is available through the Brigham Young University Office of Creative Works on a compilation DVD with other LDS films. In 2012 it was made available on YouTube by the copyright holders (see external links below).

Réda (Nicolas Cazalé) is a French-Moroccan teenager due to sit for Baccalauréat. When his devout father (played by Mohamed Majd) asks Réda to accompany him on a pilgrimage to Mecca, he reluctantly agrees. However, the father insists that they travel by car. As both embark on a road trip thousands of kilometres away from southern France, the once-icy father-and-son relationship starts to thaw as both gradually come to know each other. Réda speaks only in French to his father, who is seen speaking only Arabic for the majority of the film. Later, when necessary, the father proves that he in fact speaks impeccable French; his choice to speak only Arabic to his son is therefore purposeful.

Un prêtre marche en priant dans un couvent puis sort de scène. Un diable apparaît dans le baptistère. Il tire les cloches, et se change en prêtre lorsque passent plusieurs religieuses. Il doit alors leur faire la messe. Il se rechange alors en diable. Effrayées, elles s’enfuient, alors que lui fait disparaître le baptistère et les chaises. Il fait ensuite apparaître des gargouilles et des diablotins. Une immense figure diabolique apparaît, se change en grosse grenouille, et le diable la chevauche sous les applaudissements de ses affidés, qui se sont saisis de leur fourche et dansent. Finalement, les religieuses avec leurs croix font tout disparaître. Le diable se bat alors avec un gentilhomme, puis avec le prêtre. Une cérémonie religieuse arrive, avec un ange armé, qui terrasse le diable.

Didier, Georges et Philippe sont nés le même jour, à la même heure, dans la même pièce, alors que la Seconde Guerre mondiale touchait à sa fin. As a young man, JB (Jack Black) leaves his religious family and oppressive Midwestern town for Hollywood on a quest to form the world's most awesome rock band. There he meets acoustic guitarist KG (Kyle Gass), who is performing on the street, and begins worshipping him as a rock god because of his skills and attitude. KG feeds JB's fantasy by pretending to be famous with a self-named band ("The Kyle Gass Project"), and exploits him to do work such as cleaning his apartment and buying him weed (under the promise that JB can audition for his fictitious band.) After JB learns KG is actually unemployed and living off his parents, the two become equal, and KG apologizes to JB by giving him a brand-new guitar. They create their own band: Tenacious D, named for birthmarks found on their behinds. (JB has a birthmark which says: "Tenac", and KG has a mark which reads: "ious D".
