The film premiered at the 2007 Pusan International Film Festival where it won the FIPRESCI Prize. The film tells the story of a father and son in China's interior Gansu province. It also won the Golden Alexander, the top award at the International Thessaloniki Film Festival.
Synopsis
Dans le nord-ouest de la Chine. C'est l'époque de la moisson. Un homme parti travailler en ville depuis 5 ans rentre au village. Il était considéré comme mort. Son fils l'avait fait radier de l'état civil. Même s'il rentre ce jour là avec des cadeaux, son fils lui en veut terriblement. il n'est pas rentré lorsque sa mère est morte, il l'a laissé se débrouiller tout seul. Embauchés par le voisin qui possède une moissonneuse rouge ils partent faire les moissons pour les paysans.Comments

In a presidential election set somewhere in the near future, Bud Johnson (Kevin Costner), a lovable loser from Texico, New Mexico, who is coasting through life and hasn't had a single political thought in his head, is thrust into an improbable dilemma. In response, he is coaxed by his 8-year-old daughter Molly (Madeline Carroll) to take more of a serious approach to life. Molly runs the household and sees an opportunity on election day to energize her father. Molly, frustrated with her father's apathy toward voting, sneaks into her local polling place and tries to vote on behalf of Bud. However, due to the voting machines being unplugged, the ballot is registered, but there is no decision on which candidate gets the vote. The entire election comes down to this one man and, namely, Bud's vote. Neither candidate has a majority in the electoral college without New Mexico's electoral votes. The popular vote is tied for the two major candidates in New Mexico, leaving Bud to decide the next President of the United States. Bud gets wooed by candidates from both sides: the incumbent Republican, Andrew Carington Boone (Kelsey Grammer), and his campaign manager, Martin Fox (Stanley Tucci); and the opposing Democrat, Vermont Senator Donald Greenleaf (Dennis Hopper).

Due to a miscarriage of justice Willis Newton was in prison. Afterwards he worked on a farm and was in love with the owner's daughter. Their marriage was confounded when her father was informed that Willis had been a convict. Willis returns to his family's land and tells his mother how the farmer offered him to stay as a mere worker. Still upset he craves a chance to escape poverty and goes to town. Willis meets with two criminals named Slim and Glasscock in a western saloon. The proprietor is an Indian chief who got rich when oil was found on his land. Word is the chief would not have even been allowed to enter the saloon as a guest before that. Thus Willis learns that social climbing is possible for him too if only he happens to get to a lot of money. Now he will collect a great deal of money by robbing banks until he can purchase an oil well.

Après la mort de ses parents, "Little Red" est adopté par les cowboys du ranch du colonel Ferdinand Aliso. Après que Little Red a failli mourir d'une pneumonie, le Docteur Kirk insiste pour que l'enfant vive soit avec le pasteur, soit que l'un des cowboys se marie afin que l'enfant ait une mère. Pendant que l'enfant est en convalescence chez le révérend, Tom Gilroy est désigné par ses collègues pour faire la cour aux femmes pouvant se marier dans le village, une veuve et deux vielles filles. À son grand soulagement, toutes les trois déclinent sa proposition. Finalement, Duck Sing kidnappe Little Red, et le colonel, ému, adopte légalement l'enfant.
