The Restless Sex is a 1920 silent drama film starring Marion Davies, and Ralph Kellard. It was directed by Leon D'Usseau and Robert Z. Leonard and written by Frances Marion. The film is based upon the 1918 novel of the same name by Robert W. Chambers and was distributed by Paramount Pictures under the Famous Players-Lasky Corporation name.

A copy of The Restless Sex is housed at the Library of Congress and Gosfilmofond.

Synopsis

Stephanie (Steve) is a restless and adventurous young woman. She is in love with Jim, her foster brother and childhood sweetheart. But now, she also finds herself attracted to art student Oswald Grismer. Jim leaves for Paris to become an author. In this period,Steve and Oswald decide to marry each other. When Jim finds out, he returns home to win Steve over.

Dolores de Lisa, une Américaine vivant avec sa tante en Espagne, se déguise et se glisse dans une corrida pendant la célébration de Pâques. Elle est fascinée par le toréador Carrita. Le comte de Morera lui propose de le rencontrer, à condition qu'elle assiste à une fête chez lui le soir même. C'est là qu'elle capture le cœur de Carrita par son interprétation de "La Danza del Toro", tandis que sa tante reçoit la nouvelle de l'arrivée de son père, de son frère et de son fiancé d'Amérique. Son père la retrouve en compagnie de Parola, une artiste de cabaret, avec qui il avait déjà été lié, et Parola tente de le faire chanter, disant à Dolores qu'il est le père de Carrita. Carrita, dans une tentative de vengeance, tente de le tuer, mais Dolores reçoit le coup de couteau du toréador, bien que la blessure ne soit pas mortelle. Parola avoue son mensonge et Dolores supplie Ralph, son amour, de l'aider à surmonter sa fascination pour l'exotisme.

Ils prévoient de se rencontrer dans le jardin, mais avant que Berry n'arrive, Jennifer est confrontée à Muriel qui lui dit qu'elle ne peut pas acheter Berry de la même façon qu'elle achète son chemin dans la société. Lorsque Muriel raconte la conversation à Berry, elle déforme les paroles de Jennifer. Peu de temps après, Muriel et Berry se marient.

Ted (Chester Morris), Jerry (Norma Shearer), Paul (Conrad Nagel) and Dorothy (Helen Johnson) are part of the New York in-crowd. Jerry's decision to marry Ted crushes Paul. He gets drunk and is involved in an accident that leaves Dorothy's face disfigured. Out of pity, Paul marries Dorothy. Ted and Jerry have been married three years when she discovers he had a brief affair with another woman — and when she confronts him on their third anniversary, he tells her it didn't "mean a thing." Upset, and with Ted out on a business trip, Jerry spends the night with his best friend, Don. Upon Ted's return she tells him she "balanced [their] accounts," withholding Don's name. Ted is hypocritically outraged and they argue, ending with Ted leaving her and the couple filing for a divorce. While Jerry turns to partying to forget her sorrows, Ted becomes an alcoholic. Paul and Jerry run into each other and she discovers he still loves her and is willing to leave Dorothy to be with her. It is only after she meets Dorothy that Jerry is forced to evaluate her decision.
