The Soft Skin (French: La peau douce) is a 1964 French-Portuguese romantic drama film directed by François Truffaut and starring Jean Desailly, Françoise Dorléac, and Nelly Benedetti. Written by Truffaut and Jean-Louis Richard, the film is about a successful married publisher and lecturer who meets a beautiful air hostess with whom he has a love affair. The film was shot on location in Paris, Reims, and Lisbon, and several scenes were filmed at Paris-Orly Airport. At the 1964 Cannes Film Festival, the film was nominated for the Palme d'Or. Despite Truffaut's recent success with Jules and Jim and The 400 Blows, The Soft Skin did not do well at the box office.
Synopsis
Pierre Lachenay (Jean Desailly), a well-known writer and editor of a literary magazine, is running late for his flight to Lisbon. His friend gives him a ride to the airport, with his daughter Sabine going along for the ride, and they arrive just in time. On the airplane he makes eye contact with a beautiful air hostess named Nicole (Françoise Dorléac). Upon landing, he is greeted by photographers who ask that he pose with the air hostess.Actors

Des difficultés financières vont entraîner le rachat de l'entreprise Castejac de Toulouse par le groupe américain Fielding. Benoît Castejac se rend à Paris pour négocier avec Morrison, le représentant du groupe. Ce dernier charge son directeur des relations publiques, Levêgue, de fournir une call-girl au PDG toulousain : il s'agit de rendre plus agréable son séjour et plus facile la négociation. Benoît rencontre Christine, qu'on lui présente comme la nièce de Levêgue, et en tombe amoureux. De retour à Toulouse, il doit faire face à une grève menée par Bastide, le délégué syndical et l'un des joueurs de l'équipe de rugby animée par Benoît. Lors d'un nouveau séjour à Paris, celui-ci apprend, de Levêgue la vérité. Il fait venir Christine, l'insulte, puis il la supplie de le suivre. Christine se moque de lui. Albert et Alain Ménard-Lacoste sont frères jumeaux. Albert va alors endosser les habits et la personnalité de son frère, pour essayer de vivre la vie pleine d'aventures que son défunt frère a vécue au travers de nombreuses expériences en Amérique, une vie pleine de romantisme et de femmes, bien loin de l'univers guindé et monotone qu'Albert s'est construit, dans une rigidité d'« honnête homme », rempli de suffisance et de mépris pour ceux qui, comme son frère Alain, ont préféré les tumultes d'une vie incertaine, et pourtant pleine de goût et de souvenirs. Accueilli comme "Alain", l'héritier d'Albert, sa femme, Madeleine, croyant son mari réellement mort et n'agissant que par intérêt, veut épouser son nouveau "beau-frère". Le médecin de famille découvre alors la supercherie, poussant Albert à disparaître sans laisser de traces.
