Le Soleil assassiné est un film franco-belgo-tunisio-algérien réalisé par Abdelkrim Bahloul et sorti en 2003.

Produit par Martine de Clermont-Tonnerre et les frères Dardenne, le film évoque la mémoire du poète Jean Sénac (1926-1973), assassiné en août 1973 dans des conditions mystérieuses.

Synopsis

Animateur de l’émission Poésie sur tous les fronts sur une radio algérienne, le poète Jean Sénac choisit, au moment de l’accès à l’indépendance de l’Algérie, de rester dans ce pays. Des années après, les relations avec le pouvoir se sont nettement dégradées et la police politique, le considérant comme un subversif dangereux de surcroît homosexuel, le surveille de près.

The film is concerned with Harrison Lloyd, a Pulitzer Prize-winning Newsweek photojournalist who travels on his last assignment to the former Yugoslavia in 1991, during the Croatian War of Independence. Although he is presumed to have died in a building collapse, his wife travels to the region to find him, believing him to be in the city of Vukovar. Travelling through the war-torn landscape, she arrives in the city, and bears witness to the massacre which took place there. Back home, Harrison's son Cesar cares for his father's flowers in their greenhouse.

When Condon goes to the ship to bid them farewell, he finds Edith dead. Hearing someone in the adjoining room, he tries to enter, but the intruder escapes. He has only a glimpse of a woman's hand wearing a ring with a huge ruby. Returning home, he finds Ollie, badly beaten. Ollie gives him the Tanaka plan before dying.
