Add to a movie listTwin Bracelets is a film produced in 1990 by Cosmopolitan Film Productions Co., a Hong Kong-based company that forms part of the film production conglomerate run by the Shaw brothers who are the owners of the Shaw Brothers Studio. S.L.Wei notes that "Twin Bracelets was shown at international film festivals." It has "won the 1992 San Francisco Gay and Lesbian Film Festival Award for Best Feature." John Charles called Twin Bracelets "(a) somber, engrossing drama" that is "marred only by the inevitability of its narrative." The film has been labeled a ‘lesbian’ film, but also a ‘feminist’ film. Some critics have also focused on what they took to be its ethnological aspects. Such aspects do indeed form the background of Zhaohuan Lu’s short story ‘The Twin Bracelets’ (1986) which served as the basis of the film script written by the film director, Yu-shan Huang. Huang Yushan who initially worked for Central Motion Picture Company (CMPC) and for the Shaw Bros. is a director who has made a choice in favor of independent film. In her life and work she is attached to feminism. According to Bérénice Reynaud, she is "one of the rare women to work in the Taiwanese film industry." Prof Lai has called Yu-shan Huang "Taiwan's major feminist director." S.L. Wei sees Huang as "an important voice in Taiwanese women's cinema. The fact that her film Twin Bracelets received relatively much attention "enabled Huang to have in-depth discussions with American independent filmmakers and feminist directors. From then on she began to push consciously forward [with] films about women.

The movie tells the story of a young but noteworthy Taiwanese sculptor and painter, Ching-cheng Huang(黃清埕). He has already completed his studies in Tokyo and even had a few successful exhibitions. It is war, he plans to see his parents in Taiwan and then wants to go on to Peking, in order to deepen his knowledge of the metier. But as the artist is returning from Japan with his fiancée, a young pianist, both - together with hundreds of others - lose their lives on board the passenger liner Takachiho Maru that is tragically torpedoed by the American submarine USS Kingfish (SS-234) in March, 1943, while on its way from Kobe to Keelung (Taiwan).

Sung (Chow) is by far the best lawyer in Guangdong and the outlying areas of Southeast China. Yoshiko Kawashima is the 14th princess of Prince Su of the Qing Dynasty. In order to revive the Qing culture, Su sent Yoshiko to Japan to be trained as a spy by Naniwa Kawashima, who also deprived Yoshiko of her virginity. Yoshiko was ordered to marry a Mongolian prince, although the marriage was a failure. After breaking with Naniwa, Yoshiko went to Shanghai and, with her beauty and leverage, she attaches herself to Japanese general Tanaka Takayoshi and helps Emperor Puyi establish Manchukuo in Changchun. She becomes a commander of a Manchukuo Army unit and a Japanese spy, seeking revenge on revolutionaries. But upon seeing her former lover Cloud, who became a revolutionary, being arrested for assassinating Takayoshi, Yoshiko has a change of mind. But a crisis will ensue.

In the postwar community, where the economy is falling and many businesses are bleak. Later, Ting abducts the kid and the singer, prompting Charlie and the drunkard to finally rise up with ambition and risk their lives to save the kid and the singer and eventually, Ting was unable to evade the law.
