Theekkanal is a 1976 Indian Malayalam film, directed by Madhu and produced by George Thomas. The film stars Madhu, Srividya, Mohan Sharma and Pattom Sadan in lead roles. The film had musical score by K. J. Yesudas. The film was remade in Tamil as Dheepam with Sivaji Ganesan, in Telugu as Amaradeepam with Krishnam Raju and in Hindi as Amardeep with Rajesh Khanna.
Kottappuram Kuruppu (Madhu) is an ill-tempered head of an aristocratic Nair family. His family consists of his wife Kathamma (Srividya) , 3 daughters and a son. Two of his daughters are married and his son in laws are Sreedharan Nair (Innocent ) and Gopalan Nair (Nedumudi Venu). His son Babu (Shankar), a mechanic is in love with their caretaker Kuttayi(Sankaradi)'s daughter Ammu (Soorya ). The younger daughter, Sumathi (Nalini), a school teacher is in love with her colleague Balachandran (Devan).
