Sukumari (6 October 1940 – 26 March 2013) was an Indian film actress best known for her work in Malayalam and Tamil films.
She has been acting since the age of 10 in various roles. The total number of her films is presumed to be more than 500. In 2003, she was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India for her contributions towards Arts. And she won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the tamil film Namma Gramam (2010).
Sukumari died on 26 March 2013 following a heart attack while being under treatment from burn injuries received while lighting the pooja lamp at her residence in Chennai.
Sukumari married director A. Bhimsingh in 1959. He died in 1978. She was 38 when her husband died. The couple has a son, Suresh who has acted in films like Amme Narayana, Yuvajanotsavam, Cheppu etc. and professionally a doctor.Suresh got married to Uma,a costume designer.Suresh and Uma has a son Vignesh. Malayalam actors Ambika Sukumaran, Vineeth, Shobana and Krishna are her relatives.

Biography
She was born to Malayali parents Madhavan Nair who was a bank manager and Sathyabhama on October 6, 1940 at Nagercoil near Thiruvananthapuram. She studied at Poojappura LP School till second grade. Later family shifted to Madras. She studied at Madras till fourth forum. She had four sisters and one brother.Sukumari married director A. Bhimsingh in 1959. He died in 1978. Mannar Mathai (Innocent) is now running a travel agency Urvashi Tours & Travels,his partners in this agency are his old mates Gopalakrishnan (Mukesh) and Balakrishnan (Saikumar). Their drama group which was started in 1989, is celebrating its 25th anniversary and Manaar Mathai wants to perform a drama on this occasion. When they need a driver for their agency, they give an Ad in the news paper. But Mathayi also gives an extra Ad which says "Heroine required" which leads Nithya to reach their agency. Entry of the old villan Mahendra Varma (Biju Menon) complicates the setting. Rest of the movie is the fight between Mahendra Varma, Hareendra Varma & Ramji Rao (Ramji Rao has given up his wicked ways and has converted to a Christian, becoming a well-known pastor called Kunjumon, meaning "little boy" in Malayalam and is later revealed to be Nithya's father).

The film begins with the City Police Commissioner Bharath Chandran (Joju George) jumping over the compound wall of a house who is having an affair with house owner's wife. The house owner confronts commissioner and beats and breaks his arm. It then shifts to a man at a friend's house asking where his friend and a don named Jimmy is, as there is work for him to do for the man. He reveals his work is to transport the pirated DVD of the upcoming releasing movie Hotel California and in which Jimmy has to transport it through the airport safely. Set in late 1950s the film uses the symbols of Serpentine Worship and socio political rebellions during that period of time to create an ambience for storytelling.
